So, let's check every Nintendo Direct of September 2025 title in detail.

Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary and Nintendo’s Celebration Plans

Nintendo’s September 2025 Direct began by setting the tone for the company’s upcoming celebration of Super Mario Bros.’ 40th anniversary in 2026. A number of special events were detailed, including Kyoto’s Nintendo Museum issuing an exclusive anniversary ticket and hosting a light display in December 2025. Nintendo also confirmed sponsorship of the Kyoto Marathon on February 15, 2026, where participants will have access to themed race bibs and other anniversary tie-ins. This marked the start of a Direct that emphasized both nostalgia and forward-looking releases across franchises.

Super Mario Galaxy Games Return and a New Movie

Nintendo announced that Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will arrive in a bundled release for Switch and Switch 2 on October 2, 2025. The games will include updated resolution, improved UI, options for either motion or button controls, and an in-game music player. Switch 2 owners will also receive a free update for 4K resolution.

A Rosalina Storybook with new pages will be included, and a physical version of the storybook will be available in the future. Nintendo also confirmed two new amiibo, Mario & Luma and Rosalina & Lumas, set for release on April 2, 2026. These amiibo will grant in-game items, including a Life Mushroom and a 1-Up Mushroom.

Alongside these games, Nintendo confirmed the follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, officially titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, will premiere on April 3, 2026. The footage teased Peach’s castle, Luma, and the return of the main voice cast.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

After years of anticipation, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was confirmed for release on December 4, 2025, for Nintendo Switch. New gameplay footage showed Samus piloting a sleek motorcycle named Vi-O-La, as well as her use of psychic abilities and familiar weapons to escape from the planet Viewros.

Supporting content includes new amiibo of Samus and Vi-O-La launching November 6, and Sylux on December 4. Additionally, a Metroid Prime 1–3: A Visual Retrospective book will arrive on October 28, containing artwork, behind-the-scenes illustrations, and development commentary.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave

Nintendo closed the Direct with Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, scheduled for release in 2026. The reveal introduced characters including Cai, Theodora, Dietrich, and Leda, each with distinct motives and dramatic backstories. The narrative revolves around the Heroic Games, where the Divine Sovereign grants a wish to the champion who stands victorious. The setting and story suggest an arena-driven plot with large-scale consequences for its characters and world.

Donkey Kong Bananza DLC

Nintendo dropped the DK Island and Emerald Rush DLC for Donkey Kong Bananza during the Direct. DK Island features a level designed with callbacks to Donkey Kong’s history, including iconic statues and familiar characters. Emerald Rush mode introduces a timed challenge where players work under Void Company to farm Emeralds, unlocking perks, Banandium Gems for new skills, and collectible statues. The DLC also offers new fashion items and rewards for exploration.

Early impressions of the DLC describe it as a strong reason to revisit the game, highlighting DK Island’s nostalgic design and the addictive structure of Emerald Rush challenges.

Pokémon Pokopia

A new Pokémon title, Pokémon Pokopia, is in development as a life-sim and farming game, launching in 2026. The story follows a Ditto in human form, interacting with various Pokémon who teach practical abilities. For example, Bulbasaur demonstrates how to grow grass with Leafage, Squirtle uses Water Gun for watering, Scyther cuts objects, and Hitmonchan teaches punching. Players can build homes for Pokémon, farm, and craft an environment shaped by the Pokémon companions they meet.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Nintendo showcased additional content for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, ahead of its October 16, 2025 release. The new Mega Dimension DLC introduces Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y, along with distortions in Lumiose City tied to Hyperspace Lumiose. These disruptions are hinted to be linked to Hoopa. The DLC promises to expand the scale of exploration and storytelling, bridging core mechanics with new mega evolutions.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book

Nintendo unveiled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, set for Spring 2026. The adventure introduces Mr. E, a sentient book that falls from the sky but cannot see what is written within it. Yoshi helps uncover discoveries that gradually fill the book’s pages, teaching players about how the world functions. Mechanics include environmental interactions, such as using dandelions to crack rocks.

Virtual Boy

Unexpectedly, Nintendo announced a revival of the Virtual Boy, set for February 17, 2026. This device allows players to insert a Switch console to access over 14 compatible games, including Mario’s Tennis, Galactic Pinball, and Teleroboxer. A cardboard version will also be available as a lower-cost option.

The Virtual Boy will retail for $99.99, while the cardboard model will be $24.99. The games and accessories will be offered through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.

Super Mario Wonder Switch 2 Edition and Bellabel Park

Super Mario Wonder will receive a Switch 2 Edition in Spring 2026, along with a multiplayer-focused area called Meetup in Bellabel Park. This plaza includes new minigames such as coin collection races, Phanto Tag, and cooperative Bob-omb passing. Nintendo also announced a physical Talking Flower toy, scheduled for Spring 2026.

Mario Tennis Fever

The sports franchise returns with Mario Tennis Fever, releasing February 12, 2026. It will include 38 playable characters, 30 Fever Rackets with special effects, new movement mechanics, and a variety of single-player and multiplayer modes. An Adventure Mode will feature Mario and friends transformed into babies, blending RPG-style progression with tennis battles.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

Launching November 6, 2025, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment will expand on lore from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Players can control Zelda, Rauru, Sonia, a Korok, and others, using elemental Zonai devices and Sync Strikes in musou-style combat. The game supports two-player split-screen and GameShare, allowing cooperative play even if only one player owns the game.

Hades 2

Hades 2 exits early access with a full launch on Switch 2 on September 25, 2025 (digital) and November 12 (physical). Players will control the Princess of the Underworld against the Titan of Time, with weapons like the Moonstone Axe and Witch’s Staff. On Switch 2, the game runs at 1080p and 120fps in TV Mode and supports cross-save with PC.

Resident Evil Requiem and Other Capcom Updates

Capcom confirmed Resident Evil Requiem will release on Switch 2 on February 27, 2026, alongside ports of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village. A new trailer showcased atmospheric horror elements designed for Switch 2 hardware.

Kirby Air Riders and New Amiibo

Kirby Air Riders will launch with amiibo of Kirby & Warp Star and Bandana Waddle Dee & Winged Star. These figures allow swapping riders, summoning figure players, and training them in-game. Masahiro Sakurai is scheduled to return for a dedicated Kirby Air Riders Direct in the future.
