Fortnite Leak Reveals General Grievous’s Unmasked Face in Stunning Detail

Star Wars fans just got a rare and unexpected treat: a leaked image of General Grievous’s unmasked face, thanks to Fortnite. Epic Games’ latest Fortnite season is packed with Star Wars content, including new skins for Mace Windu and even the infamous meme-worthy “Darth Jar-Jar.” There's also an AI-controlled Darth Vader NPC, complete with James Earl Jones–style voice lines — though certain controversial topics remain off-limits.

But Vader isn’t the only villain taking the spotlight. General Grievous recently joined the game’s roster with his own skin after a short delay. Longtime Star Wars fans know Grievous as the fearsome cyborg commander of the Separatist Army, trained in lightsaber combat by Count Dooku. Before his transformation, however, he was Qymaen jai Sheelal, a Kaleesh warlord whose original appearance was first revealed in the 2019 comic series Star Wars: Age of Republic – General Grievous.

Unmasked Grievous Discovered in Fortnite Files

Although the Fortnite version of Grievous always wears his iconic skeletal mask in-game, a closer look into the game's files reveals that Epic went the extra mile — modeling his unmasked Kaleesh face underneath. This discovery was made by WizarConcepts on Twitter, who shared the leaked image online.

The face is a near-perfect recreation of the one shown in the comics: dark red skin, piercing yellow reptilian eyes, and distinct bony tusks protruding from either side of the mouth. So far, Epic Games hasn’t announced an official unmasked Grievous variant, meaning this detail is likely hidden or unused — a clever Easter egg for fans who know the lore.

A First for Star Wars Gaming

This marks the first time Grievous’s unmasked form has been rendered in a Star Wars video game. Previously, fans only glimpsed his original face in static depictions — such as statues or stylized comic book panels. The level of detail in Fortnite’s model offers what is possibly the most realistic interpretation yet, even rivaling how he might look in a live-action film.

That Epic even bothered to model a full face beneath a mask that’s never removed in-game shows a remarkable level of care. It’s a small but exciting moment for Star Wars diehards who’ve wondered for two decades what the infamous Jedi hunter looked like before becoming the cyborg general we know — and fear.
