Fortnite's 8 New Gem Sprites Push the Collection to Nearly 120 Creatures
Fortnite added eight Gem Sprite variants on August 6, pushing the game's total Sprite collection to nearly 120 creatures days before the current season winds down. The drop capped a week of limited-time events built entirely around the collectible system: Peely Hours boosted rare spawns through August 5, Mastery Monday doubled Sprite Dust and XP gains on August 3, and Gem Hours closes the run on August 8 with boosted spawn windows at 2 PM and 9 PM ET.
Sprites work as battlefield companions that grant passive powers once equipped, and Chapter 7 Season 3 built its entire structure around collecting them. Players track a Sprite down, then have to reach an Extraction Site and call in a crate while nearby enemies get alerted to the attempt, turning what sounds like a simple pickup into an objective other squads can contest. A completed extraction adds the Sprite to a permanent collection and pays out Sprite Dust, the currency spent leveling Sprites up for stronger abilities and better loot.
The eight new arrivals, Gem Aura, Gem Demon, Gem Duck, Gem Earth, Gem Grim, Gem Punk, Gem Water, and Gem Zero Point, all share the same passive: a 30% cut to fall damage. Each spawns in a different pocket of the map, Gem Water near rivers and beaches, Gem Earth in forests, Gem Aura around mountains, Gem Duck inside the Mogul Vault, with the rest turning up in Sprite Chests and Relic Chests as rare drops.
This is likely one of the last pushes for a system built specifically for the current season. Chapter 7 Season 3 ends August 19, and datamined files already point to a Gaming Legends season stacking Sonic, Pac-Man, and Persona's Joker on top of crossovers already running, a theme with little obvious room for a creature-collecting mechanic built around this season's identity.
I think Epic timing eight new variants and four straight events into the season's final two weeks says more about maximizing engagement on a mechanic that's leaving than about growing it further. I'd read the nearly 120-Sprite total less as a milestone Epic wants players chasing long-term and more as a going-away number for a system unlikely to carry into whatever comes next.
Players who want the full Gem set have until Season 3 closes to track them all down, with Gem Hours on August 8 the last scheduled boost before the season's remaining time runs on regular spawn rates.
