Fortnite's Next Season Is Officially Titled "Override," Launching August 20

Epic confirmed Fortnite's next season carries the name Override, launching August 20 under the tagline "Break the Rules, Change the Game." The announcement landed days after the "Unstable" live event wrapped up Season 3's Runners story arc on August 15, ahead of the season's full close on August 19.

Atlus confirmed a Persona 5 crossover for Override, timed to land alongside the game's 10th anniversary next month, with a teaser showing Joker running across a futuristic map under the line "Ready to take your heart/ Fortnite Override." It's the first piece of the roster confirmed by a source with actual authority over the character rather than a dataminer's file extraction.

Everything else on the rumored roster, Sonic, Tails, Dr. Eggman, and Shadow, Kingdom Hearts' Sora and its Gummi Ship, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Mega Man and Rush, Pac-Man, and Tetris, still comes from leaks and datamined files rather than Epic's own announcements. That list has grown considerably since an early leak in July first named Persona, Sonic, and Kingdom Hearts as the season's likely crossovers, back when a Rocket League tie-in was floated on a single uncorroborated source and Spyro, Tetris, and Shadow weren't part of the conversation at all. Epic hasn't said which of the twelve rumored names will show up as Battle Pass unlocks, item shop purchases, or NPCs with no cosmetic tied to them, and the season's returning Sprites are expected to play a smaller role than they did in Season 3.

I think naming the season before confirming its own roster puts Epic in an unusual spot, staking the marketing on a theme it has to keep backing up piece by piece as leaks outrun the official reveals. I'd guess the Persona confirmation exists specifically to give the season one verified anchor while everything else stays deniable until Epic is ready to show it.

Override launches in three days, and Epic's own confirmations so far cover the name, the date, and one crossover out of a rumored dozen.
