Fortnite Override Launches With a Full Gaming Legends Roster and Server-Rewriting Powers

Epic Games launched Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 on August 20, confirming the Override roster it had kept mostly under wraps for weeks. The official season announcement lists Sonic the Hedgehog as the Battle Pass headliner, with Tails, Mega Man, Kingdom Hearts, Pac-Man, Persona 5 Royal, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, and 99 Nights in the Forest all joining under the tagline "Break the Rules. Change the Game."

The season's central mechanic revolves around Override Consoles that let players rewrite rules for the entire server, alongside Squad Overrides that trade map visibility for team-wide buffs. Cheat Codes are scattered across the island, and Loot Hacks let players spend Sprite Dust to customize what drops from chests. Sonic gets his own Green Hill Zone location, Kingdom Hearts arrives later in the season with the Kingdom Key weapon, and a Tetris Rift item rounds out the new toy box.

The roster confirmation closes a gap our earlier report flagged when Epic named the season before backing most of the cast: Persona 5's Joker was the only crossover Epic had verified at the time, while Sonic, Kingdom Hearts, Crash, and the rest sat in datamined files. All of them now appear in Epic's own announcement. Players who buy the Battle Pass before August 27 at 11:59 PM ET get the Infiltrator Grace Crowne outfit, and gifting the pass to a friend unlocks the Peril Peak Mali outfit.

The season also carries over the Sprite Garden mode for collecting and displaying creatures, building on the eight Gem Sprite variants Epic added to the collection in early August that pushed the roster toward 120 creatures ahead of the season change.

I think the roster reveal validates the wait-and-see approach Epic took with its own marketing this time. I'd argue naming a season before showing its cast usually invites more datamining pressure than it avoids, and Override proved that even here, since most of the confirmed names matched what leaks had already circulated for weeks.

Override runs through the fall, with Epic yet to detail how the Override Consoles will shift as the season progresses.
