Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 Introduces Sprite Extraction System and New Rewards

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3: Runners has officially arrived, bringing a host of new gameplay mechanics centered around Sprites, extraction-based objectives, and progression rewards. The season was recently showcased during Summer Game Fest 2026, where Epic Games unveiled the Fortnite – Chapter 7 Season 3: Runners Gameplay Trailer, offering players a first look at the update's new features.

One of the biggest additions this season is the new Sprite Extraction system, which allows players to secure Sprites during matches and add them permanently to their growing collection.

How Sprite Extraction Works

Sprites can be found throughout the island, either roaming freely or hidden inside Sprite Chests. However, simply collecting them is no longer enough. To permanently secure a Sprite, players must successfully extract it during a match.

To begin the extraction process, players need to locate an Extraction Site, which appears at fixed locations marked on the map. These sites remain locked at the start of a match but become available shortly after the first storm circle begins.

Once an Extraction Site is active, players can interact with the control panel to call in an Extraction Crate. The site then enters a charging phase before the crate arrives. Since the process alerts nearby players, Extraction Sites often become high-risk hotspots where teams may need to defend themselves while waiting for the crate to deploy.

After the crate lands, players can deposit their secured Sprites inside. Once the extraction process is completed, the Sprites are permanently added to the player's collection and rewards are granted automatically.

Why Extracting Sprites Matters

The primary reason to extract Sprites is to expand the Sprite Collection, allowing players to access those Sprites at the beginning of future matches, provided they have enough resources to summon them.

Successful extractions also reward Sprite Dust, a new seasonal currency that can be spent at Sprite Stations or used to summon collected Sprites before entering a match.

Beyond progression, Sprite extraction plays an important role in completing seasonal content. Several quests require players to extract specific Sprites, while progression toward the Assemble the Guardian objectives can unlock additional XP rewards and cosmetic styles for The Guardian Battle Pass outfit.

A New Layer of Risk and Reward

The extraction mechanic introduces a fresh objective-driven element to Fortnite's gameplay loop. Players must now decide whether to safely leave a match with valuable Sprites or risk carrying them longer in search of better loot and higher rewards.

Combined with the season's focus on Sprites, progression systems, and extraction-based gameplay, Chapter 7 Season 3 offers a new twist on Fortnite's traditional battle royale formula while encouraging more strategic decision-making throughout each match.
