Datamined Files and a Pac-Man Easter Egg Confirm Fortnite's Gaming Legends Season

Fortnite's next season has moved from insider rumor to something closer to confirmed fact: dataminers pulled character IDs for Sonic, Dr. Eggman, Persona 5's Joker, Mega Man, Tetris, and Pac-Man straight out of the game's encrypted v41.30 files. That's a harder form of evidence than the leaker chatter that first pointed toward a "Gaming Legends" theme, and it lands with a launch window already in view: the current season closes August 19, with Chapter 7 Season 4 expected to follow within a day or two.

Players got a second, more tangible signal before the datamine even surfaced. Pac-Man's intro music started looping at the Wonkeeland POI, first noticed by players DanielGame47 and x103p and then amplified by dataminer ShiinaBR. Wonkeeland underwent a full makeover during Fortnite's South Park collaboration earlier this year, so a repeat treatment for the arcade icon wouldn't be a stretch, though Epic hasn't detailed how the location will change.

The encrypted files add texture the original leak didn't have. Dr. Eggman reportedly gets a story role in the current season's closing event, tying his arrival to Fortnite's ongoing narrative rather than dropping him in as a standalone skin. Tetris and Pac-Man weren't part of the roster our earlier report on the leak named back in July, and the new season would stack on top of crossovers already running in-game, including God of War, Tomb Raider, and Metal Gear Solid. One report pegs the season at up to 30 total collaborations.

Not everything from July has held up the same way. That earlier leak also flagged a Rocket League tie-in resting on a single source, and Crash Bandicoot remains rumor-only, absent from the confirmed file IDs. Kingdom Hearts and Vampire Survivors, both sourced separately to leaker HypeX, still stand alongside the newly confirmed names. Epic Games hasn't issued an official announcement for any of it, so the season is still running on datamine evidence rather than a company statement.

I think the gap between this and July's leak matters less for the character list than for what it says about how these seasons get built now. I'd read a season with 30 stacked licenses as Epic treating crossovers less like special events and more like a standing content pipeline, which raises the question of how much room that leaves for anything built from scratch.

Chapter 7 Season 4 is expected within days of the August 19 close, and the roster confirmed so far, Sonic, Eggman, Joker, Mega Man, Tetris, and Pac-Man, gives a clearer picture than anything available three weeks ago, even without a word from Epic itself.
