Assassin's Creed: Shadows Is Coming to Dead by Daylight – Here’s What to Expect
Ubisoft just confirmed it. Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is joining Dead by Daylight in a surprise crossover event launching May 27, right in the middle of its post-launch roadmap. This follows a cryptic teaser on Twitter telling players to “Step into The Fog,” and now we know why.
While full details are still under wraps, expect a themed quest or survivor/killer content, likely with cosmetics inspired by Shadows’ lead characters—Yasuke and Naoe. No official trailer yet, but Ubisoft is clearly leaning into momentum: Assassin’s Creed Shadows is currently the second-best-selling game of 2025, behind only Monster Hunter Wilds.
“Step into The Fog.”
That’s the only direct teaser we’ve got from the official Ubisoft post. Classic Behaviour soft-launch tactic.
DBD’s crossover addiction is the new meta
Dead by Daylight isn’t new to this. Over the past few years, it’s gone from horror mashup to pop-culture platform. We’re talking crossovers with Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Stranger Things, Attack on Titan, Alan Wake, and now Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. And that’s just scratching the surface.
The strategy? Stay in the conversation year-round by borrowing IPs with loud fan bases. It’s working. Every time DBD adds a new killer or survivor from outside Behaviour’s original cast, player numbers jump. People love familiarity, and they love seeing their favorites twisted into horror.
This isn’t just DLC—it’s cultural osmosis.
On paper, it feels off. Stealth action and asymmetrical multiplayer horror? Different games. But then you remember that Assassin’s Creed: Shadows features a samurai and a ninja. Naoe’s assassin style already looks like something DBD could work with—quiet kills, hooded silhouettes, and parkour.

More importantly, Ubisoft’s new Assassin’s Creed game is all-in on cinematic style and combat roleplay, which makes it ideal for a crossover cosmetic or licensed character pack. This isn’t the first time AC dipped into surprise partnerships either—just not this dark.
Let’s talk crossovers in a different direction. Balatro, the indie deckbuilder that blew up earlier this year, also started teasing collabs—but their scale is different. Most Balatro crossovers are visual swaps: new cardbacks, chip themes, or re-skinned decks.
Dead by Daylight, on the other hand, absorbs the identity of the IP. You don’t just get an Assassin’s Creed card; you become the character in the world of DBD. It’s participatory horror, not aesthetic Easter eggs.
Balatro’s strategy is smart for its size—collab light and fast. DBD goes deep, slow, and tries to drag fans in for longer engagements.

Top Dead by Daylight Crossovers (Game Score Table)
Here’s how DBD’s biggest crossover events rank, based on average critic/fan reception and impact:
Crossover | Score (10) | Notable Additions |
Resident Evil | 9.5 | Nemesis killer, Jill & Leon survivors |
Silent Hill | 9.2 | Pyramid Head killer, Cheryl survivor |
Stranger Things | 9.0 | Demogorgon killer, Hawkins map |
Attack on Titan | 8.7 | Costume skins, visual rework |
Alan Wake | 8.5 | Alan survivor, flashbang mechanic |
Alien | 8.4 | Xenomorph killer, Ellen Ripley survivor |
Hellraiser | 8.3 | Pinhead killer, puzzle box mechanic |
Assassin’s Creed Shadows | TBD (est. 8.2) | TBD (likely killer/survivor duo or skins) |
The Witcher (Upcoming) | TBD | Announced, no details yet |
Five Nights at Freddy’s (Upcoming) | TBD | Announced, high hype potential |
The Assassin’s Creed event will likely land solidly mid-tier, unless Behaviour drops full-scale campaign integration or unique gameplay hooks. Either way, it’s better than just a logo on a t-shirt.
What fans are saying
Across Twitter, Reddit, and Discord, reactions have been mostly positive. Some were shocked the AC crossover wasn’t with For Honor or Rainbow Six. Others love the genre clash. Fans are especially hoping the collab brings new map visuals—Feudal Japan fog effects, shrine assets, or ambient music cues.
So far, there’s no confirmation if this is a full DLC or just a limited-time event with skins and emotes. But even a cosmetic bundle is enough to make noise, and Behaviour knows how to milk a teaser.

Dead by Daylight keeps building its identity off the backs of everyone else’s IP—and it works. Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is the latest big name to walk into the Fog, and the May 27 event will likely bring in a fresh wave of Ubisoft fans. Whether this is a deep gameplay integration or just a stylish dress-up, DBD keeps proving it can make horror a shared playground.
If you’re playing Shadows already, you’ll probably want to see what Naoe or Yasuke look like when the lights go out.
Let’s just hope this one’s more than a T-shirt.
