Ubisoft Might Be Teasing the Remake of the Original Assassin’s Creed

Following the release of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced this summer—a remake of the original 2013 game that was a huge success for Ubisoft—rumors that the studio will release even more remakes of older games in the future have been spreading rapidly. A recent Steam update seems to hint that the developers have already begun actively working on an updated version of yet another installment in the franchise.

As noted by a user named TheHiddenOneAC, for some reason Ubisoft has changed the promotional images and banners of the first Assassin's Creed game on Steam—the company had done something similar long before the official announcement of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. Naturally, fans took this as a hint that the studio is actively developing the remake—something that had already been the subject of rumors. As TheHiddenOneAC notes, this also happened after a leak from Displate celebrating the 20th anniversary of the original Assassin’s Creed—the special posters were revealed before the official announcement, and the page is now unavailable on its website.

The listing images for Assassin’s Creed 1 on Steam have been changed just a few days ago.

Interestingly, this comes after the Assassin's Creed 20th anniversary images were accidentally revealed by Displate, and the colors were quite similar to Assassin's Creed 1.

Could we see that Assassin's Creed 1 Resynced announcement soon?

Given all the circumstances, announcing a remake of Assassin's Creed in 2027 seems like a natural fit—as that’s when the legendary first game will celebrate its 20th anniversary. However, Ubisoft has not yet commented on a remake of the first game—with the possible exception of a statement by CFO Frédérick Duguet, who revealed that developing remakes costs the studio significantly less than developing new games and can generate substantial revenue. Furthermore, it’s worth noting that work is also underway on Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe—the next main installment in the franchise, which, according to rumors, is set to release in the second half of next year.

As for Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft previously confirmed that, from a financial standpoint, the game exceeded the company’s internal projections. It is currently available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, but there are persistent rumors of a release on the Nintendo Switch 2 already on September 22.
