Sega Announced Multiple Netflix Adaptations: Crazy Taxi, Sonic, and Stranger Than Heaven
There are more and more video game adaptations around. Just a few hours ago, Sega announced a major collaboration with Netflix, where several of the company’s game franchises will be adapted—and some details have already been revealed.
As revealed by Variety, the first project resulting from the collaboration between Sega and Netflix will be a live-action Crazy Taxi movie. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who previously worked on the The Naked Gun reboot, will serve as the film’s screenwriters, confirming the movie will be a comedy. It was also revealed that a new animated kids' series about Sonic is in the works, as well as a film based on Stranger Than Heaven—an upcoming game from RGG Studio set in the Yakuza universe, scheduled for release next January.
Sega adaptations coming to Netflix:
- Crazy Taxi comedy movie written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand (The Naked Gun 2025)
- Sonic the Hedgehog new animated series
- Stranger Than Heaven movie
The adaptation of Stranger Than Heaven looks particularly interesting—it’s a highly ambitious project from Sega, which, in all likelihood, won’t adapt the game’s events one-to-one but will instead serve as an expansion of its lore. However, no official details about the film have been released yet.
As for Crazy Taxi, a new installment in the franchise, titled World Tour, will release next year. Given the comedy film based on the game series is the first project in the Sega-Netflix collaboration—and we already know who will be writing the script—it’s possible the publisher plans to release the game and the movie in quick succession to attract a wider audience.
