Genshin Impact Leak Reveals New Game Mode

A new Genshin Impact leak suggests that HoYoverse is developing an Auto Chess game mode, potentially bringing a fresh strategic experience to the RPG. Over the past four years, the game has explored various gameplay styles through limited-time events—from tower defense and rhythm games to the introduction of the Genius Invokation TCG. Now, it seems Auto Chess could be next to make its way into Teyvat.

The Auto Chess genre first gained popularity in the late 2010s, originating as a Dota 2 mod before evolving into a standalone genre. Other major franchises, such as Starcraft and League of Legends, adopted the format, with Riot Games' Teamfight Tactics (TFT) becoming one of its most recognized iterations. Genshin Impact now appears to be the latest title to embrace the trend.

According to prominent HoYoverse leaker HomDGCat, the Auto Chess game mode will include both PvP and PvE elements, blending aspects of exploration and combat. Players will be able to equip Artifacts and gear to enhance their characters, as well as sell items to earn currency for Talent upgrades. While no official release date has been provided, the leak suggests it will arrive after Version 5.6.

Auto Chess: A Permanent Mode or Limited Event?

HoYoverse has frequently drawn inspiration from popular online games, integrating their mechanics into Genshin Impact’s limited-time events—such as Windtrace, which mirrors Prop Hunt. Some fan-favorite mini-games have even become permanent, like the rhythm-based event. However, it's unclear if Auto Chess will be a permanent addition or a temporary feature.

What’s Next for Genshin Impact?

While the Auto Chess mode may still be months away, Version 5.5 is set to introduce major new content. The update will bring two new charactersVaresa (5-star) and Iansan (4-star)—as well as an expansion to Natlan, unveiling the Great Volcano of Tollan.

If the Auto Chess mode becomes a reality, it could be a game-changer for Genshin Impact, adding yet another layer of strategy and replayability for its massive player base.
