Skyblivion Team Reveals 2025 Release Roadmap: Quests and NPCs Making Progress, The Shivering Isles Await
The dedicated team behind the ambitious project, Skyblivion, has provided an update on their roadmap to release the game by 2025. As part of the larger Elder Scrolls Renewal project, Skyblivion aims to recreate the world of Oblivion within Skyrim's engine. In a recent 10-minute video, the team showcased their progress and outlined their plans for the future.
Currently, the team has already completed 87% of the world map's cells, including the intricate region of Blackwood. However, there are still 40 spaces beyond the map, such as the realms inside paintings and the Daedric realms accessed through Oblivion gates, which will be tackled later in the development process. The team promises a greater diversity in these realms compared to the original Oblivion.
Regarding NPCs and quests, significant headway has been made. Approximately one-third of the navmeshing task, which determines the movement paths for NPCs, has been completed. As a result, NPCs and quests are fully functional in the finished parts of the map. Out of the 199 quests from Oblivion, 97 are currently playable in Skyblivion, with an additional 25 being worked on. Notably, the entire Dark Brotherhood questline is among the playable content, while the Thieves Guild and main storyline are still in progress.
Skyblivion also aims to bring back the beloved features and systems from Oblivion. Spellcrafting, alchemy, underwater combat, and weather systems have been successfully implemented. Work is underway on classes, magic, attributes, and the speechcraft minigame, which alters NPCs' dispositions. Fortunately, the level-scaling system from Oblivion will not be included, with Skyrim's leveling mechanics being adopted instead.
Unfortunately, due to time constraints, Skyblivion will not include any of the expansions, such as The Shivering Isles, upon its initial release. The team's current focus is solely on completing the base game by 2025. Once Skyblivion is in the hands of players, attention will shift to developing The Shivering Isles and other additional content.
The team plans to make Skyblivion compatible with both Skyrim and Skyrim: Special Edition. However, owning a copy of Oblivion will also be necessary to play the game.
