The creator of the most popular game on Steam in 2022 does not know the reason for success
The creator of Vampire Survivors, the game that became the most popular game on Steam in 2022, said he did not know the reason for the success of the title. According to him, this scares Luca Galante enough, and in further work on the game, he tried not to pay attention to infographics.
He spoke about this in an interview for the gaming publication IGN:
I have no idea[whymygameissopopular]and it's very scary! Since launch, I've tried not to look at the numbers or what's happening on the internet so I don't get too caught up in it.
I continued to work on the game and the company, focusing almost entirely on player feedback on the discord and the Steam forums.
According to Galante, almost every indie developer who puts his soul into his work can achieve such success:
Although I find it hard to believe that Vampire Survivors is so popular, I'm still happy about it. Mainly because my example shows that absolutely anyone can achieve the same results.
Hopefully this will inspire more indie devs to keep pushing their projects forward. I want to see more and more[gameslike]Celeste, Undertale, Powerwash Simulators, Wandersong and A Short Hike in the spotlight they deserve!
Earlier, the SteamDB portal summed up the results of the outgoing year and talked about which games have achieved the greatest success in the past 2022. Vampire Survivors took the first place in this list, Stray was on the second line, and God of War closed the top 3.
For our part, we dare to suggest that the great success of Vampire Survivors lies in the simple but addictive game mechanics, which are very similar to typical survival games on mobile devices. Due to the various circumstances generated, the game has a very high level of replay value and pushes players to new games and the desire to break their record. This is what most likely allowed the game to receive more than 170,000 positive reviews with 2,000 negative ones. At its peak, Vampire Survivors had over 77,000 simultaneous users.
