Epic Games ceases operations in Russia
The American company Epic Games, which develops computer games, has announced the termination of commercial activities in Russia. The company explained this decision by the fact that "Russia invaded Ukraine."
Epic Games is terminating commercial activities with Russia in the context of our games in response to its invasion of Ukraine. We do not block access for the same reason that other means of communication remain online: the free world must be open to dialogue.
Epic Games did not explain what specific restrictions will be introduced. However, the company added that it was not going to close its games to Russia. Currently, both third-party games and various paid Fortnite bundles are available for purchase on the Epic Games Store. The company also clarified that it will not block player accounts.
It is likely that changes in the company's policy will affect microtransactions in Fortnite, as well as licenses to use the Unreal Engine.
Earlier, Polish studios CD Projekt RED and Bloober Team announced that they would stop selling their titles in Russia and Belarus. In addition, Electronic Arts has suspended the sale of its games and content in Russia and Belarus. Activision Blizzard also decided to stop selling its games in Russia.
