A Major Boost for EA Sports FC

Previously known as FIFA, EA Sports FC remains one of Electronic Arts' most successful franchises, with over 325 million copies sold over the years. However, the loss of the FIFA license in 2022 dealt a significant blow to the series, impacting sales. In a recent financial report, EA disclosed that EA Sports FC 25 did not meet financial expectations.

According to Video Games Chronicle, EA acquired TRACAB Technologies for an undisclosed amount. While EA Sports FC has previously integrated real-world soccer data, this acquisition could take the game's realism to the next level. TRACAB is capable of capturing nearly every event in a soccer match, generating over 600 million data points per game. This includes live skeleton tracking with data from 21 joints per player, enabling an unprecedented level of realism. EA Sports president Cam Weber emphasized that “data is at the center of every meaningful advancement” in sports games today, and this acquisition will play a key role in making future games more lifelike.

TRACAB Technologies: A Potential Game-Changer

It remains unclear whether TRACAB’s technology will be implemented in EA Sports FC 26 or if it will debut in later installments. However, if successfully integrated, this could help the franchise recover from the disappointing financial performance of EA Sports FC 25.

The financial struggles of EA Sports FC 25 and Dragon Age: The Veilguard contributed to a 16% drop in EA’s stock value. Given that the EA Sports FC franchise generates approximately $2 billion annually, leveraging TRACAB’s cutting-edge technology could be instrumental in restoring its financial stability.

EA Sports' Strong Performance in 2024

Despite the underperformance of EA’s soccer games, 2024 proved to be a strong year for EA Sports, primarily due to the success of EA Sports College Football 25. This game, which was not released on last-gen consoles, became a massive hit, selling over 25 million copies and securing its place as the best-selling sports video game in U.S. history.

With TRACAB’s data-tracking technology now in EA’s arsenal, the future of EA Sports FC looks promising as it aims to deliver an even more realistic soccer experience for players.
