EA Sports FC 27—First Reviews from Critics and Players Revealed

On September 25, Electronic Arts will release the latest installment in its football simulator series—EA Sports FC 27. However, the game has already received its first reviews, as early access has been granted to everyone who pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition or Ultimate Plus Edition, as well as to EA Play Trial subscribers. Additionally, gaming critics have also shared their impressions of the new game.

At the moment, EA Sports FC 27 has a score of 75 on Metacritic, which is generally in line with the scores of previous games (EA Sports FC 26—77 and EA Sports FC 25—76); in other words, it’s safe to conclude there hasn’t been any revolutionary change in terms of gameplay. Among the positives are the new open-world mode, The Grounds, which noticeably refreshes the game, various innovations in Career Mode, an overall better feel during matches, and some enjoyable new features in Ultimate Team. As for the criticism, reviewers have taken issue with aggressive monetization, the high price tag given the lack of significant innovations, and some technical issues. FC 27 rectifies many mistakes of the previous entries to the series and listens to what the community has been asking for many years. With manual gameplay at heart, skill comes to the forefront. Backed by new game modes and better overall balance, this game will be delightful for beginners and veterans alike.

GAMINGbible – 80/100:

If you’re a diehard fan, then the chances are that you’ve already ordered EA Sports FC 27. However, if you’re new to the series and have been away for one or two releases, this year’s entry could be the perfect opportunity to rekindle or spark your love for the beautiful game. EA Sports FC 27 doesn’t quite score the perfect hat-trick, but with the improved gameplay, FUT and, Manager Mode, we're still bagging three goals albeit not left foot, right foot, and headed in.

Eurogamer Germany – 80/100

As good as ever - packed with content and introducing The Grounds, housing a fun amount of match types and minigames for a varying number of players, though unfortunately not without pay-to-win mechanics.

Insider Gaming – 70/100:

EA delivers another solid spectacle of the beautiful game, with gameplay that aims for and hits the top-corner.

EA Sports FC 27 is a solid football video game. It has a brand new mode in The Grounds, along with meaningful tweaks to the transfer system in career mode, and gameplay tweaks that do feel positive on the whole...Some of those tweaks make FC 27 play quite different in some ways, but some of those can feel a bit frustrating, as trying to fix certain issues seem to have caused others. For example, fixing the ball bouncing loose off tackles now results in the ball sticking to defenders like glue.

Steam users, however, have been more critical of EA Sports FC 27. As revealed via SteamDB, the game has mixed reviews, with only 57% of them being positive. Players have pointed out a huge number of bugs and crashes and describe the game as just another installment in the football simulator series without any significant changes—one that isn’t worth spending money on. On the positive side, they note changes to the career mode that make it more realistic, as well as gameplay during matches that requires greater attention.
