GTA 6 Trailer 3 Madness Gaining and Rockstar Stays Quiet Yet
GTA 6 fans treated May 12 as the day Rockstar would drop the long-awaited GTA 6 new trailer, stacking circumstantial signals from database outages to Sony emails into a single prediction. The day delivered nothing from Rockstar. Game Informer revealed its cover at 11 a.m. CT, and the subject was The Blood of Dawnwalker.
The case for May 12 ran on pattern matching. GTA 6 trailer 2 dropped a year ago on May 6, 2025, with Take-Two's quarterly earnings call landing nine days later. Take-Two's next earnings call is scheduled for May 21, and counting nine days backward lands on May 12. Trailer 2 was on a Tuesday. May 12 is a Tuesday. Fans treated the calendar coincidence as design intent.
Environmental signals fed the theory. The X user iGrandTheftAuto reported that Rockstar's website database appeared to go down briefly, fuelling speculation that the studio was uploading the new GTA 6 Trailer to their website ahead of a public reveal. The user runs monitoring scripts on the site and posts screenshots of a "Connection timed out" error returned by the search function. Sony sent PlayStation 4 owners who had wishlisted GTA 6 a promotional email pushing a PlayStation 5 upgrade. The same email leaked the rating: PlayStation revealed a Mature rating for GTA 6, with Reddit users surfacing the screenshots before Sony pulled the wider rollout. Sony also reportedly removed the "Deals" section from the PlayStation Store, which some fans read as space being cleared for a GTA 6 pre-order push.
There was also the GTA 6 price leak. A UK retailer employee claimed the standard edition will sell at $70/€70/£70, with pre-orders opening on May 12. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has confirmed pricing or a pre-order window.
Game Informer carried the heaviest weight in the timeline. The magazine teased a "big" reveal this week, and previous Game Informer covers had featured Grand Theft Auto V in 2012. The publisher live-streamed the cover reveal at 11 a.m. CT on May 12. The cover went to The Blood of Dawnwalker, the upcoming action RPG from Rebel Wolves directed by former Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz. The cover without GTA 6 drained most of the day's momentum.
The fan theories did not stop on May 12. A Reddit user named JalapenoPoppers24 posted a three-month analysis charting planetary positions for every Rockstar trailer drop since 2007, arguing it might be also on May 14. The post pulled exact UTC timestamps for 26 confirmed Rockstar reveal events from GTA IV onward and ran geocentric ecliptic longitudes for all nine classical bodies at each drop. The author scored every day from May 1 through August 31, 2026 against a Rockstar fingerprint, weighting Sun sign, Mercury sign, Saturn sign, Sun-Mercury conjunction, Mars-Saturn square, and Thursday bonus.
May 14 scored 12 out of 16, the highest in the 123-day window. Sun in Taurus 23°, Mercury conjunct Sun within 4°, Saturn in Aries, Venus in Leo, Thursday (the day of 12 of 26 historical Rockstar drops). The author noted that May 14 falls exactly one week and one day after the GTA 6 Trailer 2 anniversary, and that the calendar day of the 14th matches the date Rockstar pushed GTA V Trailer 2 to in 2012.
"If Rockstar is seeing this, it's just a 'schizo post'."

A separate theory points to May 15, the release day of an Ehrin Duijf track titled "Welcome to Vice City." The artist confirmed on his own social channels that the song has no connection to GTA 6. A third theory points to May 24. Rockstar posted an image on social media featuring a car license plate with the text "May" and a series of numbers. Some fans added the numbers and arrived at 24, suggesting a reveal three days after Take-Two's earnings call.
The base rate doesn't help any of these theories. Rockstar's last public communication was on November 6, 2025, when the studio announced the second delay for GTA 6. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has discussed release date, pricing, marketing, or trailer schedule since. Polygon's framing of the precedent is worth holding onto: Rockstar released the third trailer for Grand Theft Auto V about five months before that game's release, and the third trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 about six months before launch. GTA 6 launches November 19, which puts the studio inside the five-to-six-month window now.
I see the Roblox question as the more telling absence in this entire rumor cycle, because the meetings between the two companies were reported on the record and then disappeared from coverage with no resolution. Every recent leak has pointed at PlayStation, Sony marketing systems, retailer pricing, and Take-Two's earnings calendar. None has touched the Roblox angle, which suggests the original story was either folded into a wider Sony push or quietly killed.
Rockstar's marketing posture supports the case that something is close. The studio is hiring a Production Artist in New York and reportedly producing posters and billboards for GTA 6. PlayStation 4 upgrade emails would not have shipped without coordination between Sony and Take-Two. The Mature rating leaking through Sony's promotional pipeline means the rating board paperwork is complete, which usually happens close to launch.
Another constraint sits in the background. GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, with no GTA 6 on PC at release. Rockstar has not committed to a PC version, and the studio's history with Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 has been to delay PC ports by 12 to 18 months. The decision sets the stage for what the marketing campaign actually has to support.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick's recent public appearance schedule has fed the speculation. He has been at conferences and given interviews to gaming publications more frequently than usual, which some fans read as a soft hype campaign. Zelnick has not discussed GTA 6 release details in any of those appearances.

The most defensible position right now is that Rockstar will drop the next trailer when it is ready, that the November 19 launch date sets a hard deadline for a marketing rollout, and that nothing in the public record requires the trailer to land on any specific day in May. Fans extrapolating from license plate numerology and astrological charts are doing the work Rockstar refuses to do for them. The studio has historically dropped trailers without warning, including on random Tuesdays, and there is no reason to assume the third trailer will follow a predictable calendar.
For now, May 12 has passed without GTA 6 news. May 14 is the next fan target. Take-Two's May 21 earnings call remains the firmest fixed point on the calendar.
Read also, three Edinburgh MPs have publicly criticised Rockstar for its handling of last October's mass dismissals, with Tracy Gilbert, Chris Murray, and Dr. Scott Arthur accusing the studio of refusing to properly engage with appeal processes and trade unions. UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer opened an ongoing ministerial investigation into the firings in December, after the MPs raised the case in Parliament and during meetings with affected constituents. Rockstar fired 34 confirmed staff across the UK and Canada in late October 2025, citing gross misconduct over alleged confidentiality breaches; the IWGB Game Workers' Union frames the dismissals as union-busting against members of a private Discord channel used for organising.
