Strauss Zelnick Reveals Why GTA 6 Doesn’t Release for PC on Launch Day
Grand Theft Auto VI, the most anticipated video game of 2026, will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S this November—it's claimed, and no more delays are expected. Just like all GTA games, the sixth installment will come to PC eventually, but for now the game has not been announced yet by Rockstar Games.
Over the last few weeks, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, Strauss Zelnick, has revealed some information about GTA 6, and in his recent interview with Bloomberg, Zelnick spoke about GTA titles coming to consoles first rather than PC. According to him, it doesn’t have any connection to a potential deal between Rockstar Games and Sony; instead, he doesn’t hide that console are “the core consumers” for them. More of the highlights from his interview with Jason Schreier for Bloomberg you can check out below:
“I mean, historically Rockstar's gone to console first. Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you're judged by serving the core. Like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn't there, if they're not served first and best, you kind of don't hit your other consumers”
A recent leak regarding Rockstar Games' revenue from GTA Online reveals that consoles are the studio's biggest moneymaker—for example, weekly revenue on the PS5 is nearly $4.5 million, while on PC it barely exceeds $250,000. Given these results, it becomes clear why GTA 6 is released first on consoles and only later on PC.
At the same time, the fans are hopeful to receive new official information about GTA 6 this month, as Take-Two confirmed their next financial report is scheduled for May 21. Moreover, Rockstar Games is already preparing for the game’s marketing campaign by creating posters and billboards. The marketing for GTA 6 officially kicks off this summer.
As for the PC version of the game, the game is not announced by Rockstar Games, but gaming insider Tom Henderson previously revealed it is set to release in autumn 2027, which is perfectly in line with the release schedule if you look at when the PC versions of the previous installments in the franchise were released.
