Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Could Be Postponed to 2027

Crystal Dynamics studio might be really busy at the moment. The studio is confirmed not only to work on the new Tomb Raider video game, announced at last year’s The Game Awards show, Tomb Raider: Catalyst and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, but also reportedly on a new game based on The Lord of the Rings franchise.

As we know, the studio also recently announced a new wave of layoffs, and now there are reports that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis could be delayed to 2027 and be released in February. At this point, the game is set to release this year, with no exact release date confirmed. This information comes from Tomb Raider newsmaker Society of Raiders, who confirmed last year that two new projects related to Lara Croft will be presented during The Game Awards 2025.

“Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is rumored to be released in February 2027.

We get why the lack of a source can be a bit annoying, but we can’t share it for obvious reasons. That’s why it’s marked as a rumor and not a fact. It’s up to you believe it or not, just keep things kind and respectful.”

But there is another reason why Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis could be postponed. A lot of anticipated AAA titles are confirmed to release this autumn, like Marvel’s Wolverine, Fable, Control Resonant, Gears of War: E-Day, and, of course, Grand Theft Auto VI, so maybe Crystal Dynamics wants to play it safe, polish the game, and release it at a more opportune time in order to attract a larger player base.

At this point, Crystal Dynamics hasn’t revealed any information on Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis's release date, so this report should be considered with a grain of salt.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is the remake of original Tomb Raider, released in 1996. The game is also rumored to have more advanced action scenes, as it was co-developed with Flying Wild Hog—the developers of Shadow Warrior and Evil West—and is also set to unite all the timelines featuring Lara Croft.

As for another recently announced Tomb Raider game, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, it will be a sequel to 2008’s Tomb Raider: Underworld. The game is currently set to release in 2027.
