Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a More Important Lara Croft Game Than You Think
The present and the future of Tomb Raider franchise seem bright. Recently, Aspyr announced Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered is coming to multiple platforms, including iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch 2, and will also have new outfits, achievements, and Challenge mode. Moreover, there are two new Tomb Raider games confirmed to be in development as well as the new TV show.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst was announced at The Game Awards 2025; it is confirmed to feature a fully open world and will be a continuation of 2008’s Tomb Raider: Underworld, not the latest installment, Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Speaking of TV series, Amazon is developing a project in which Sophie Turner (X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Game of Thrones) will play Lara Croft. The production is now underway, but the release date remains unknown. Perhaps Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, yet another video game announced at The Game Awards 2025, could be the franchise’s most exciting title, thanks to the new update.
It is known that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is the remake of the original Tomb Raider video game, released back in 1996. However, according to Legion Looterana, a portal that recently revealed Marvel’s Wolverine will not feature an open world, it’s more than just a remake. In fact, the game will unite all the timelines of Lara Croft, as we will see how the iconic female character finishes the letter for Jonah, which will be a reference to the Survivor trilogy (Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider) before she met Jacqueline Natia, possibly the greatest villain in the history of Tomb Raider franchise.
“Legacy of Atlantis is NOT just a remake of the '96 game. It's the piece that unites ALL the timelines!
It's been confirmed that we'll see Lara finishing a letter for Jonah (Survivor trilogy) right before meeting the legendary Jacqueline Natla in Calcutta to begin her adventure.
The circle is finally complete, and the definitive Lara is born.”
Gaming insider V Scooper, who gave a lot of insider information about the future Tomb Raider installments before they were announced, has also responded to that statement and revealed Legacy of Atlantis feels like a bridge that will set the new path for the franchise in Tomb Raider: Catalyst, as you can check out below:
“Legacy of Atlantis unifying the entire Tomb Raider saga feels like a necessary "remake like" bridge, before a title that sets the new path for the franchise (Catalyst)
Interesting model. What if other game IPs try the same?”
