Epic Games Clarifies Viral Epstein Fortnite Controversy
Epic Games has released an official statement addressing claims surrounding a recently identified Fortnite account allegedly linked to Jeffrey Epstein. The speculation emerged following the latest release of the so-called Epstein Files, which referenced a past purchase of V-Bucks. This led some online users to suggest that a Fortnite account under the username “littlestjeff1” belonged to Epstein, particularly due to visible in-game activity extending into 2025, several years after his death in federal custody.
While the primary focus of the Epstein Files remains accountability and justice for victims, public discussion has expanded to include various aspects of Epstein’s activities beyond his confirmed crimes. The documents include references to the gaming industry, such as Epstein’s permanent suspension from Xbox Live. Although the suspension notice cited “harassment, threats, and/or abuse,” separate reports indicate it may have resulted from an agreement between Microsoft and the New York Attorney General to ban registered sex offenders from the platform.
The renewed attention intensified after readers noted that the Fortnite account in question had reached Silver 1 rank during Chapter 5 Season 1 (December 2023 to March 2024) and had logged 75 matches in 2025. This fueled online speculation, ranging from theories questioning Epstein’s death to claims that the account was a deliberate hoax.
Epic Games has since confirmed that the account was not connected to Jeffrey Epstein. In a response issued through its services update channel, the company explained that the situation was the result of a deliberate impersonation by a Fortnite player. According to Epic, the username was changed “a few days ago” from an unrelated name to “littlestjeff1,” likely coinciding with the account’s discovery in public discussions. The company also clarified that third-party trackers only display current usernames, not previous name changes.
Epic further stated that there are no records linking Epstein’s known email addresses to any Epic Games accounts based on publicly available documents. Additionally, the company noted a recent surge in newly created Fortnite accounts using similar usernames and email patterns, suggesting coordinated attempts at impersonation.
At this time, Epic Games has not confirmed whether disciplinary action will be taken against these accounts.
