Fallout 4 Bugs Multiply as Creations Bundle Arrives

The release of the Fallout 4 Creations Bundle—part of the game’s tenth-anniversary update—has sparked a wave of complaints among players citing pervasive issues. From installation failures to game-breaking crashes, the rollout of 150 new items and the revamped Creations menu has been marred by technical hiccups.

Just days earlier, Bethesda’s creative chief, Todd Howard, reflected on the studio’s longer horizon, telling GQ that The Elder Scrolls 6 is “still a long way off but now a daily focus.” He described the sequel as a constant part of his work routine and urged fans to remain patient:

“I’m preaching patience. I don’t want fans to feel anxious.”

Bethesda Game Studios rolled out the bundle at £17.99 (or equivalent) shortly after announcing the full Anniversary Edition. Within hours, the new content’s Steam page showed a “Mostly Negative” rating, based on 124 reviews—a striking result for what is essentially a content add-on.

Players immediately reported a range of problems. Some claimed the Creations menu would not load or only show “not installed” status despite purchase. Others found the game would crash when attempting to quit or install content from the new bundle. One Steam user noted:

“Game absolutely refuses to let you attempt to install anything involving the Creation Club and freezes upon launching and quitting the game to the point where you can’t even use Task Manager or Steam to force close.”

Another:

“Actually made the game buggier, and somehow makes the game crash PC-breakingly hard when trying to do the simple action of closing the game.”

The problems appear to stem from multiple sources. Some arise from connectivity with the Bethesda store and how the Creations menu integrates with the existing UI. As one user put it:

“The ‘creations’ tab in the main menu seems to be broken, can’t tell what I own, what’s a mod, or what’s a Creation Club piece of content.”

Others are mod or platform-specific: users on consoles reported that the Creations Bundle would not appear as enabled unless other downloadable content was also installed. Notably, the update appears to have impacted long-standing modding workflows. According to the mod-community site NexusMods:

“Mods that use plugins are likely to be unaffected, but may be incompatible with some of the new anniversary content.”

Many players describe the patch as having broken stable mod setups while simultaneously causing new instabilities in the base game. A separate outlet reported that starting a new game with the Creations Bundle could crash on the loading screen.

Bethesda has outlined several fixes in the pipeline. One report notes that a patch scheduled for November 24 will increase the local storage limit for mods on Xbox to 2 GB—aimed at users who report being unable to install the new content due to storage constraints. Additional fixes target menu performance, exit-save creation, and display placeholders for location names.

Given the context of a major anniversary release, the issues carry added weight. The Anniversary Edition of Fallout 4 bundles all six official expansions and more than 150 Creation Club items—promoted as a definitive experience for returning and new players alike. Instead of smooth celebrations, however, early impressions focus on frustration. Several community posts compared the situation to earlier troubled launches from Bethesda, noting the irony of a “celebration” edition causing chaos.

For many mod-users and longtime players, the timing could not feel worse. The update is mandatory for those who purchase the Anniversary Edition, and at the same time, it introduces changes that make numerous popular mods unworkable until their authors publish updates. NexusMods offers guidance on rolling back to earlier versions of the game until mod compatibility can be restored.

From a consumer perspective, the price point may also raise eyebrows. Reports note that the Creations Bundle alone costs roughly $20, on top of the base game or upgrade cost. Some players question whether the bundle offers meaningful additions beyond visual gear and settlement items.

Still, the update does bring worthwhile additions—new quests, weapons, settlement assets, and UI changes—which may justify it for some users. The key question now is how quickly Bethesda can restore function and mod compatibility. Until then, players keen to revisit the Commonwealth may face a bumpy road.
