Fortnite OG Introduces Expert Duos Mode Without Skill-Based Matchmaking

Epic Games has unveiled a brand-new game mode for Fortnite OGExpert Duos, a twist on classic gameplay that strips away skill-based matchmaking (SBMM). This mode returns players to a more unpredictable, high-stakes experience that mirrors Fortnite’s early days.

Expert Duos Mode: A Return to Chaos

Expert Duos features the same map and loot pool as the standard Fortnite OG experience but removes the SBMM system entirely. As a result, players of all skill levels are matched together in the same lobby, bringing back the chaotic and often unpredictable matches that defined the original Fortnite.

When Fortnite OG first launched, it also lacked SBMM — a move many veteran players welcomed. However, Epic later introduced matchmaking algorithms and bots, which caused division in the community. Now, with Expert Duos, the studio is offering an alternative for those who crave that nostalgic, skill-agnostic challenge.

Fortnite’s Live Event Teases a Big Change

In parallel with gameplay changes, Fortnite OG may be hinting at a major shift in its storyline. A recent rocket launch live event — which many believed would simply replay the original event — delivered a surprise twist.

Just before launch, a red butterfly flew into the rocket, which then triggered a massive red rift in the sky. While rifts and butterflies are familiar elements in Fortnite’s lore, they’ve traditionally appeared in blue. The color change is fueling speculation that Fortnite OG is diverging into its own parallel timeline — possibly paving the way for a multiverse-style narrative.

Blitz Royale Expands with New Modes

Epic also confirmed that Blitz Royale, a fast-paced mode initially introduced as a limited-time event, is now a permanent feature of Fortnite. In addition, two new game modes are joining the Blitz Royale lineup:

  • Pure Chaos – Boosts siphon rates, making every elimination even more rewarding.
  • Six Stack – Allows players to squad up in teams of six, a first for this mode.

Epic hinted that other team size options may be introduced in future updates.

Ninja Joins the Game as the "Blitz Boss"

In a high-profile collaboration, popular streamer Ninja will officially become the Blitz Boss in Fortnite starting August 2. The crossover includes new mythic items tied to Ninja’s persona, such as:

With new modes, lore twists, and high-profile collaborations rolling out rapidly, Fortnite continues to evolve in ways that excite both long-time fans and newcomers alike. The return of non-SBMM gameplay is a nostalgic nod to Fortnite’s roots — and possibly a sign of bold new directions ahead.
