Mojang has rolled out its May 2025 preview update for Minecraft on Xbox, PlayStation, Windows, and iOS, with the beta version also available for Android. This update, part of the ongoing Vibrant Visuals series, focuses on visual improvements, bug fixes, and gameplay tweaks as the team prepares for a larger, feature-rich release later this year.

🌈 Vibrant Visuals — Continued Refinements

The Vibrant Visuals initiative introduces major graphical upgrades like volumetric lighting, pixel-aligned shadows, water caustics, and biome-specific fog and color grading. While previous updates added these features, they also introduced visual bugs that Mojang has been steadily addressing.

In this latest update:

  • ✅ Ambient lighting in the Nether has been corrected.
  • ✅ Fog settings for warm and humid biomes have been fixed.
  • ✅ Android black screen issues are resolved.
  • ✅ Green tint affecting Android’s Vibrant Visuals (MCPE-220308) is removed.
  • ⚠️ Sky and weather changes were temporarily reverted while further refinements are made.

🧤 Items and Animation Fixes

  • 🛠️ Fixed an issue causing held items not to animate correctly (MCPE-219652).
  • 🧱 Items with missing icon textures will now display properly in hand instead of appearing as corrupted pixels.

👾 Mob Behavior & Leash Updates

Several mobs have been updated, particularly those affected by animation bugs or pathing issues:

  • 🐙 Ghastling speed has been reduced for smoother gameplay.
  • 😄 Happy Ghast now uses a simplified detection area and no longer jitters near player edges.
  • 🧵 Leash attach points have been fixed for:
    • Allay (MCPE-220035)
    • Glow Squid
    • Ocelot (MCPE-220034)
    • Parrot
    • Snow Golem (MCPE-220041)
    • Squid (MCPE-220039)
  • 🐴 Proper four-rope leash physics are now used when leashing a Mule to a Happy Ghast (MCPE-219640).
  • ✅ Glow Squids can now be leashed, matching the behavior of regular Squids (MCPE-220040).

  • 🧪 Technical Fixes and Known Rollbacks

    • 🧱 Certain block settings, like "alpha_test_to_opaque" and "blend_to_opaque", have been temporarily rolled back to avoid visual inconsistencies at a distance. Mojang plans to reintroduce these in a future update.
    • 🎮 Camera control schemes have also been fixed across the board.

    📢 Feedback & Bug Reporting

As this is still a work-in-progress build, some issues remain. Mojang encourages players to submit feedback and report bugs through the official Minecraft Feedback Portal and Bug Tracker.
