Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Is Aiming for Early 2026

The Prince of Persia remake is still happening—and now we know when. Ubisoft’s latest financial report quietly confirms that The Sands of Time Remake will launch before March 31, 2026, meaning we’re looking at a release in Q1 2026.

That’s the first real update fans have had in years. After multiple delays and a complete restart of development, The Sands of Time Remake became one of Ubisoft’s most infamous problem projects. The original plan was to release it in 2021, then it got pushed to 2022, then 2023, and finally just became “2026.”

Now, it seems Ubisoft is confident enough to tighten that window.

“Ubisoft expects Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to help boost its net bookings before the end of this fiscal year.”

This line came straight from Ubisoft’s Q4 2024 earnings report, which was shared online by Twitter user Okami13. The fiscal year ends on March 31, 2026, so the game is clearly slotted for Q1 of that year.

That narrows it down to January, February, or March 2026.

The Remake’s Road Has Been Brutal

For those who forgot just how rough things got: Sands of Time Remake was originally being developed by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai. After fan backlash to its 2020 reveal (mainly due to visuals), Ubisoft handed the game off to Ubisoft Montreal, where the original Sands of Time trilogy was made.

Since then, updates have been almost non-existent. At one point in 2022, the game was removed from pre-order pages, and Ubisoft admitted it had gone back to the drawing board.

So while a narrowed release window is technically a small update, it’s a huge symbolic one. Ubisoft finally seems confident that this thing is going to ship soon.

Fans had another blow earlier this year when it was confirmed that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, a 2024 surprise hit, won’t be getting a sequel, and that the team behind it was disbanded. Even though The Lost Crown was arguably the best Prince of Persia game in over a decade, Ubisoft chose not to invest in it long-term.

That left Sands of Time Remake as the last hope for a meaningful return of the franchise.

So far, it looks like the game hasn’t been affected by the internal delays hitting other Ubisoft titles, like Assassin’s Creed: Shadows or Star Wars Outlaws. In fact, Ubisoft’s confidence in Sands of Time suggests development is finally back on track.

This game has been delayed so many times that fans are right to be sceptical. Even with this narrowed-down release window, another delay isn’t off the table. But it’s worth noting that Ubisoft is talking about the game again—openly, in investor materials.

That’s usually a sign that marketing is gearing up and that internal confidence has finally returned.

So while nothing’s guaranteed until you’re downloading the game from your library, the odds of playing Sands of Time Remake in early 2026 just went way up.
