The release date of the game "Haunted House" has been revealed just in time for the beginning of the spooky season
Atari has revealed the release date for the game "Haunted House", which means you'll be able to dive into this gothic roguelike revival just in time for the spooky season.
According to a press release, "Haunted House" is launching on PC and consoles on October 12th. It will also be available on the retro-inspired Atari VCS.
The new version of "Haunted House" is being developed by Retro Machina's Orbit Studio, and it's a reimagining of the original classic, which Atari proudly calls "the first-ever survival horror game." Quite intriguing.
Unlike the 1982 version, the new game will incorporate roguelike elements and place a significant emphasis on "stealth and precise strategy." It's safe to say that Orbit's "Haunted House" will be more challenging compared to the original.
You will assume the role of Lyn Graves (naturally), who is on a quest to find her treasure-hunting uncle, Zachary.
Naturally, her search leads her to the enigmatic mansion, but Lyn's friends are quickly ensnared by the mansion's eerie architecture, which means she'll have to rescue them as well.
Each playthrough rearranges the floor layouts and enemy placements in the mansion, and as you progress, you'll unlock new characters, each with unique abilities to assist you in exploration and evading enemies.
Combat is minimal; Orbit and Atari have stated that this aspect of the game has been "de-emphasized," so you'll need to rely on stealth, traps, and items to avoid enemy detection and make progress.
In contrast to Atari's Recharged series, which mostly stays true to the arcade gameplay of the original titles, "Haunted House" is a complete reimagining of the concept.
This means that while some aspects may seem familiar to fans of 80s games, there should still be plenty of new spooky delights to uncover.
"Haunted House" is set to launch on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Atari VCS on October 12th.
