The history of FunPlus Phoenix dates back to December 2017. Then the team was first talked about in the context of the competitive League of Legends.

Created tag FunPlus Phoenix received a slot in the LPL, China's titular league. The progenitors of FunPlus Phoenix and its first line-up in all disciplines was the LoL team: GimGoon, Pepper, bing, Lwx and Crist.

FunPlus Phoenix in League of Legends

FPX appeared in competitive LoL in 2017, which was quite a difficult time for debutants. The team opened the division during the heyday of the Chinese scene: a year later, the LPL took the first Worlds title (IG became the champions of the Worlds 2018).

However, difficult times gave rise to strong personalities. FunPlus Phoenix were targeted seriously and immediately jumped into the local scene.

The team's first League of Legends tournament was LPL Spring 2018 with 5th place. In the same year, FPX played at LPL Summer 2018, where they made it to the top four in the group, but fell to 8th place in the playoffs.

Worlds 2019 Champions and FPX Dominance in Competitive LoL

In 2019, the team is undergoing roster changes. The remaining GimGoon, Lwx and Crisp are joined by Tian as a jungler and Doinb as a midlaner.

Having settled in after a tough 2018, FunPlus Phoenix started playing at the LPL 2019 with renewed vigor. The jump in quality of play was noticeable to the naked eye and materialized in first place in the regular LPL Spring 2019 draw.

The victory in the regular season sent the “phoenixes” to the playoffs, where they took 3rd place. For a short period, this was the best result of the club. This is how it was until the summer of 2019.

And in August 2019, FPX finished the LPL Summer 2019 regular season on the first line. Next up is the Summer Split Playoffs, where FPX surpassed their record last spring: in the LPL Summer Grand Final, they beat Royal Never Give Up 3-1, earning 1,500,000 yuan in the process.

Winning the LPL was important not only and not so much because of the impressive cash prize. It opened up the prospect of participating in Worlds 2019, where FPX entered for the first time in its history.

At the tournament, which took place in three countries at once (Germany, Spain and France), FunPlus Phoenix arrived as one of the main favorites for the Summoner's Cup. It could not be otherwise, because last year the LPL resident, Invictus Gaming, became the champion.

At Worlds 2019, FPX started from the first place in Group B, closing their quartet with a score of 4-2. In the playoffs, FPX went over the heads of Fnatic and kicked out the current world champions - Invictus Gaming - from the tournament.

In the grand final, FunPlus Phoenix beat G2 Esports 3-0. FPX became champions 2 years after joining the discipline.

FPX decline

After their triumph in 2019, FPX continued their efforts to stay at the top of the competitive League of Legends. There were inclinations for this, but competition in the region grew proportionately.

At the LPL Spring 2020, the team took 3rd place in the regular season and then repeated the result in the playoffs. Afterwards, things got much worse.

at LPL Summer 2020, the team reached the TOP-8, and took 4th place in the regional finals, which made it impossible for them to advance to Worlds 2020. The situation changed in 2021, when the team, having previously changed the roster, won LPL Summer 2021 and took 2 1st place in the LPL Summer Playoffs. In 2021, FPX returned to the Worlds arena.

They did it as part of Nuguro. Tian, Doinb, Lwx and Crisp. The redesigned FPX roster was not successful, from the word at all. The World Cup ended for the club with a sad TOP-16 and entailed cardinal changes in the line-up.

Of the star five, only Lwx remained in the ranks, which continued to perform until 2022. However, this did not help the performance.

Through 2022, FPX remained partners with the LPL. The team took the TOP-10 there in the spring of 2022, TOP-8 in the summer of 2022, and also got into the TOP-12 at Demacia Cup 2022.

FunPlus Phoenix in VALORANT

While the League of Legends experienced a significant decline in the period from 2020-2022, the club's management turned their attention to another discipline from Riot Games, released in 2020 VALORANT

The first roster for the fresh FPX discipline was announced in August 2020. The team included the top PartyParrots mix: ANGE1, Shao, ShadoW, Meddo and Zypan. In this form, the team played until the fall of 2021. It is noteworthy that with the opening of the VALORANT division, FunPlus Phoenix entered the European esports arena.

The first result for FPX was 2nd place at the Allied Esports Odyssey. To snatch victory in that FPX championship was prevented by their main competitors in the region at that time - G2 Esports.

Later, the team won the miniature ORCs Cup Weekly, and then took TOP-4 at LVL Clash 2. In September of the same year, FPX made it to the grand final of the BLAST Twitch Invitational, where they again lost to G2 Esports. The second place at the BLAST Twitch Invitational was the team's biggest result in the first year of the VALORANT competition.

FPX within VCT

In 2021, the VALORANT Competitive will move to raked VALORANT Champions Tour tournaments, aka VCT. The first stage of the year-long FunPlus Phoenix cycle is played with heads held high.

The team wins VCT: Europe Stage 1 Challengers 1 and VCT: Europe Stage 1 Challengers 2, but falls short of the VCT 2021 Europe Stage 1 Masters trophy, finishing in TOP-4 there.

In the second round, Challengers FPX is at the top again, but not for long. After winning VCT 2021: Europe Stage 2: Challengers 1, FunPlus Phoenix fail VCT 2021: EMEA Stage 2: Challengers Finals, and take the TOP 4 at VCT 2021: Europe Stage 3 Challengers 1. In the playoffs of the third VCT draw in Europe the team even gets only to the TOP-12, thus showing the worst result since the creation of the club.

As 2021 draws to a close, FPX are making roster changes. The roster received its final look in December 2021. The team included: ardiis, SUYGETSU, Zyppan, Shao and ANGE1.

Fun Plus X Major Championship Season 2022

In 2022, FPX continues to roam competitive VALORANT, but now they play in a different region - CIS. There, the team passes the qualifiers to get to the VCT 2022: EMEA Stage 1 Challengers, a newly formed mixed region including representatives from Europe, Turkey and the CIS.

VCT 2022: EMEA Stage 1 Challengers ends with a triumph for FPX. In the grand final of that event, FunPlus Phoenix outplayed their eternal rival G2 Esports. The performance at VCT 2022 allowed the team to qualify for a pass to VCT 2022: Stage 1 Masters - Reykjavik.

However, FPX failed to get to the first global event in the history of the club. The captain of ANGE1 failed to leave the territory of Ukraine due to the introduced martial law due to an armed attack by the Russian Federation.

The team missed VCT 2022: Stage 1 Masters - Reykjavik, however, Riot Games went to meet them for the club by awarding 200 VCT Championship Tour points for Reykjavik.

After missing out on VCT 2022: Stage 1 Masters - Reykjavik, FPX continued to grow in the EMEA region. At EMEA Stage 2 Challengers, ANGE1 made it to the grand finals, but Fnatic got in the way of the title.

A successful performance was the reason for a direct entry to the VCT 2022: Stage 2 Masters - Copenhagen. The team got into this major despite the ongoing aggression of the Russian Federation towards Ukraine.

As it turns out, Riot didn't give FPX 200 VCT points for nothing at the first Major of the year. In Copenhagen, the team shone.

FunPlus X made a comeback after falling to the lower bracket of the playoffs in the first round. En route to the grand finals, ANGE1 and the company took on Guild Esports, DRX, Fnatic, and OpTiC Gaming.

In the decisive confrontation, FunPlus X defeated the mastodons of the Indonesian VALORANT, the Paper Rex team, thereby becoming the victors of VCT 2022: Stage 2 Masters - Copenhagen.

Being the champions of the title tournament in Copenhagen, the team received a direct invitation to VALORANT Champions 2022. The team went there in full force and being one of the contenders for victory.

FunPlus Phoenix tournament started with second place in Group C, and later fell to the lower bracket of the playoffs after losing to DRX.

The same DRX will send FPX home, beating them in the lower bracket semi-finals. At Champions 2022, the teams took TOP-4.

End of FPX VALORANT

As 2022 draws to a close, FunPlus X have disbanded their VALORANT roster. Despite the top results, the club failed to reach the main milestone of the year - getting into the list of partner teams at VCT 2023.

The announcement of the break in cooperation with the star cast happened on November 7, 2022. At the end of 2022, the club did not announce further plans and did not present a new roster for attempts to break into the top ten partners through qualifiers, but for the next year.

FPXCSGO

Along with joining VALORANT, FunPlus X explored the CSGO scene for themselves. Again, in the European region. The first roster was introduced in 2020, and the unit was put on pause in the spring of 2022.

The first attempt to enter CSGO was the signing of the Danish five es3tag, stawn, borup, Snappi and cadiaN, however, the star Danes did not last more than a month in the club.

There were attempts to master the American region, as they tried to do at Flashpoint Season 1: Phase 2, with the signing of ptr, mitch, crashies, Jonji and dapr. Again - to no avail, because the teams there took TOP-8 out of 12.

The main achievement of the period of active play was the victory at Snow Sweet Snow #1, in February 2021. Then in the final of Fun Plus X, consisting of zehN, STYKO, maden, farlig, chrisJ and Devilwalk beat Gambit Esports as a coach.

How much FunPlus Phoenix earned

Since the creation of the club in 2017, FPX have managed to break into the list of millionaire clubs. The organization is in the TOP-70 of the richest esports units.

Various divisions of FunPlus Phoenix generated ~$3,810,000 in prize money for the club. It took 70 tournaments.
