Treyarch Fixes Double XP Issue in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Treyarch has announced a fix for an issue in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 that limited some players' double XP gains during the game's first 2XP weekend. This latest entry in the Call of Duty series hadn’t been out for a week when an event offering double experience in multiplayer mode launched. Unfortunately, some players soon discovered that the event was not functioning as expected. In response, the developers released an update to fix the problem and extended the double XP weekend to give players additional time to benefit from the bonus.
Players quickly noticed the issue, with reports surfacing less than a day into the event. One user highlighted the problem by sharing that they had earned only 6,000 XP in a game where they should have received 12,340. The discrepancy was significant enough that some fans speculated Treyarch and Activision might have intentionally reduced the XP rates for the weekend. However, it’s now evident that the issue was unintentional, and players can expect the proper XP rewards, with an extra day added to compensate for the disruption.
Treyarch's official Twitter account announced the update on November 2, just a day after the 2XP event began. Since some players effectively lost a day of boosted XP, the event will now run until Tuesday, November 5. The tweet also noted that the development team would continue monitoring the progression system, hinting at possible future updates. This approach is standard for new multiplayer games, aiming to ensure balanced gameplay without over-reliance on double XP tokens for progression.
Black Ops 6’s Successful Launch
Despite early issues, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been a resounding success, drawing large numbers of players since its release. The Call of Duty franchise recently surpassed half a billion sales, and while the new Black Ops title isn’t solely responsible for this milestone, its highly anticipated launch contributed significantly.
Even with the initial XP system bug, players have managed to level up quickly. One standout example is a player who reached Prestige Master just five days after the game’s release. The extended 2XP event should help other players catch up. Regardless of these early technical hiccups, it’s clear that Black Ops 6 has made a significant impact on the community and the franchise as a whole.
