Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Player's Good Luck Ritual in Zombies Mode Pays Off Big
A Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 player recently shared a humorous clip showcasing how their personal superstition finally paid off in the Zombies mode. The clip features the player’s unique "good luck ritual," performed in hopes of influencing the outcome of the random rewards given by the mystery box.
With new Call of Duty titles releasing regularly, it's easy to forget that the series has been around for decades, fostering a subculture full of in-jokes, superstitions, and traditions. This is especially true for the Zombies mode, which began as a "secret" mode filled with hidden Easter eggs. Developer Treyarch has embraced this culture, packing maps like Terminus Island with Black Ops 6 Zombies secrets.
Given this backdrop, it’s no surprise that players develop their own quirky rituals for good luck while playing Zombies mode. Player McHarzberg shared a moment with the CODZombies Reddit community where their nostalgic superstition delivered a great result. In the clip, McHarzberg performs their ritual before opening a Zombies mystery box.

In the video, McHarzberg’s ritual involves shooting the corners of the mystery box, meleeing the latch, spinning around twice, and jumping up and down as the box cycles through its potential rewards. To their delight, the mystery box grants them one of the most powerful weapons in the mode, the Thrustodyne M23.
For years, Zombies players have joked that rituals like knifing the mystery box or doing strange moves while it opens could improve the chances of getting better loot. Although mystery boxes are designed to give out random rewards, and there’s no real evidence that these rituals affect drop rates, this lucky outcome amused fellow players. Some even joked that McHarzberg had "cracked the code" for a ritual that actually worked. Even McHarzberg acknowledged that the result was mostly luck, calling it "1% skill, 99% nostalgic superstition."
Despite knowing these rituals are based on myths, it's still entertaining to see them seemingly succeed. Part of the charm of Call of Duty Zombies has always been its embrace of mystery and intricate storytelling, which keeps players engaged even amid challenges like recent Black Ops 6 Zombies leaks.
