Mads Mikkelsen and Epic Conclusion: New Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Story Trailer Revealed

A new installment in the Call of Duty series—Modern Warfare 4, developed by Infinity Ward—is set to release in a month’s time. The game's new trailer related to the story campaign has recently been revealed, introducing a well-known actor and hinting at the conclusion of the sub-franchise.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's story trailer confirms Mads Mikkelsen plays one of the game’s antagonists, whose name has not yet been revealed. Judging by the trailer, we can expect a personal showdown between the villain and Captain Price. Mikkelsen has previously appeared in video games: in Death Stranding, he played a character named Cliff and even won the Best Performance award at The Game Awards 2019 for his role. Perhaps we can expect an equally impressive performance in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

Additionally, on social media platform X, the developers accompanied the trailer’s release with the phrase “Witness the epic conclusion”—this appears to hint Modern Warfare 4 will be the final installment in the series; however, this is merely speculation, as no official confirmation has been provided by the developers.

Activision is calling ‘Modern Warfare 4’ the “epic conclusion” to the rebooted series that began in 2019. The game is set to wrap up the story of Price, Ghost, Gaz, and the rest of Task Force 141.

It is also worth noting the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 trailer released last month shows Price and his team escorting Valeria to Paris in exchange for information about a character named Archer. Perhaps that is the name of Mikkelsen’s character.

The story of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 picks up directly where the third installment left off; alongside Captain Price, the game will also feature a brand-new protagonist—Private Park, a young soldier from South Korea fighting in real combat for the first time alongside his team. The game is set to be released on October 23 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2, while those who have pre-ordered the game will gain access to the story campaign a week early, on October 16.

A film based on Call of Duty is also in development, and director Peter Berg has confirmed that it will be set in the Modern Warfare universe —although he did not specify whether this refers to the original trilogy or the soft reboot released in 2019. The Call of Duty film will premiere on 30 June 2028.
