Upcoming Call of Duty Movie Will Be Set in Modern Warfare Universe

In addition to the new Call of Duty installment, Modern Warfare 4, developed by Infinity Ward, a movie based on the franchise is also in development. Earlier this year, we heard that the movie is set to come out in June 2028, and now we know it will be connected to the video game series.

The film's director, Peter Berg, recently attended the Fanatics Fest event, where he revealed that the upcoming Call of Duty adaptation is set in the Modern Warfare universe. His announcement was accompanied by a short teaser made in the game’s style, which you can check out below:

In theaters June 30, 2028.

We don't know yet if the movie is based on the original Modern Warfare games or the series starting with the 2019 “soft reboot”—but this gives the filmmakers the opportunity to include characters such as Captain Price, Soap McTavish, Ghost, Vladimir Makarov, Imran Zakhaev, and others, which is pretty exciting. However, it’s not certain that this will be a direct adaptation of one of the games, as Peter Berg might be looking to make his own story set within the Modern Warfare universe. Either way, this is a question that remains to be answered.

As for the Call of Duty video game, the next franchise installment, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, will release on October 23 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game's story is about Private Park, a young soldier from South Korea fighting in real combat for the first time with his team. Captain Price will also be back, working independently from the organization he used to be part of. Infinity Ward recently showed off a new multiplayer map titled Kill Block. This map changes between matches, rebuilding itself from three different sections, offering 500 possible layouts when the game launches.
