On September 21, Activision will close the original version of Call of Duty Warzone

In March 2020, a free-to-play battle royale game was released and became a massive hit, attracting over 100 million players in 13 months, according to the publisher's statement.

In November 2022, it was temporarily disabled for a few weeks so that Activision could focus on launching its successor. Initially, this successor was called Warzone 2.0, but later it was decided to remove the numbers from its name.

Instead, the original version of Warzone was relaunched in a lighter form under the name Warzone Caldera, which was named after an island-themed map in the style of World War II, replacing the original Verdansk map.

Players on Caldera were able to retain access to all the skins and weapons they had acquired or unlocked in the three premium parts of the Call of Duty game, which were not compatible with the new version of Warzone.

In June, Activision announced plans to conclude support for this game in that month to focus on other Call of Duty content.

The original version of Call of Duty Warzone will be closed on Wednesday. After the conclusion of this version, players will be able to access their purchased content in the multiplayer modes of Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard.

The Call of Duty game for the current year, Modern Warfare 3, is a direct sequel to Modern Warfare 2 from the previous year. The release is scheduled for November 10, 2023, with development being carried out by Sledgehammer in collaboration with Infinity Ward, while Treyarch is in charge of the Zombies mode.
