Riot Games Sanctions Players for Cheating and Discrimination
Riot Games issued two statements in which it sanctioned professional players carosmacks, LemonOreo, Dsylexic, and nabiichu. Carosmacks and LemonOreo were reportedly punished for discrediting community members on the basis of gender, while Dsylexic and nabiichu received multiple years of suspension from competition for misleading officials about their gender. In addition, Dsylexic was found to be using banned software during a match against CLG Red.
In two separate statements, Riot Games said that Dsylexic, a former EQ Cerise player, was suspended from sanctioned events for cheating in a match against CLG Red that took place in October. Moreover, the gender identity of Dsylexic has also become a subject of controversy. As a result, the player was banned from participating in sanctioned championships for eight years.
nabiichu, Dsylexic's former teammate, was suspended for five years for misleading officials about Dsylexic's gender and found guilty.
In turn, carosmacks and LemonOreo players were banned from participating in sanctioned events for one year after the pair posted a discriminatory meme to a 70-member Discord channel. The discriminatory meme, which was sent in October last year, was racist in nature, for which esports players were punished in accordance with existing rules.
During the investigation, Riot Games reviewed screenshots of the alleged violations and received a statement from an anonymous source. After the opening of the official proceedings, carosmacks and LemonOreo were given the opportunity to state their position, and both girls submitted statements that were taken into account by Riot Games investigators.
As a result, the players were given the following punishments:
- carosmacks - one year
- LemonOreo - one year
- Dsylexic - eight years
- nabiichu - five years
