Cloud9 Disbands VALORANT Academy
According to insider George Geddes, the North American esports organization Cloud9 is disbanding its VALORANT academy. The club has already managed to inform its players so that they start looking for new opportunities to continue their careers. While part of the roster has already announced their departure from the team, nillyaz and geeza are still listed in Cloud9 Academy.
According to sources close to the team, the roster will be removed from the organization due to financial uncertainty regarding franchising. Later this month, Cloud9 Academy was scheduled to play against Oxygen Academy and the free agent City Boys, but the team withdrew from MCT - MEL Valorant Premiership - Season 3 Stage 2 and suffered a technical loss.
It is unlikely that teams will be forced to keep their youth squads if they are selected to play in the partner league next year. Cloud9 is one of the most famous organizations in North America and has a deep history of collaboration with Riot Games. And yet the current situation encourages the club to shift its interests in favor of the main team.
In addition, each organization must provide additional financial information before Riot Games makes a final decision on which teams will be selected for the next competitive season. Eight to twelve teams will take part in North and South America. If selected, Cloud9 will compete against teams from Brazil, Latin America, and other North American countries.
The Cloud9 Academy project has existed since last year. In ten months, the North American team reached the finals at Trovo Titans North America, NSG: Summer Championship - Philadelphia and NSG: Summer Championship - Open 13, and also got into the TOP-8 within the Knights Arena Monthly Gauntlet - December, NSG: Winter Championship - Open 14 and NSG: Summer Championship - Open 10, among others.
Cloud9 Academy's latest VALORANT roster is as follows:
- geeza
- nillyaz
- mocking
- Bones
- furbsa
- vexel (head coach)
