Rocket League Unveils New Format for 2025 RLCS Season: Bigger Prize Pool and 1v1 Competition

The 2025 RLCS will include two Major events and a total prize pool of $5 million (£3.7 million), marking a $700,000 (£530,000) increase from the 2024 season’s prize pool. One of the biggest updates is the introduction of a one-versus-one format, which will run alongside the traditional three-versus-three competition. This move aims to offer more opportunities for fans, players, and teams to compete and engage with the sport.

The new one-versus-one competition will feature cash prizes for the top players from different regions: the top 128 from Europe, the top 64 from South America (SAM), and the top 32 from the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

In addition to these updates, Psyonix is introducing last-chance open qualifiers between the second Major and the season-ending World Championship. Based on average performance at past Majors, one team from each of the four regions will earn a spot in the World Championship. As a result, the total number of teams competing at the World Championship will increase from 16 to 20.

Rocket League esports has seen steady growth, with 2024 marking an expansion of the in-game esports shop, adding ten new teams. While viewership for the 2024 RLCS World Championship peaked at 426,833, slightly lower than 2023's peak of 468,292, the changes for 2025 signal continued growth and excitement for the future of Rocket League esports.
