Riot announce big rework of Yuumi
Riot Games has announced a major champion update for League of Legends. It will touch one of the most controversial champions in the game - support Yuumi.
The magical cat Yuumi appeared in Summoner's Rift in 2019 and has since become a regular guest in matches of various ranks and levels. The character is easy to learn and deadly in the hands of high ELO players: Yuumi's pick rate is over 10%, and the magical cat has spawned over 100,000 times
The combination of Yumi's protection and caster abilities, hyperscale identity, access to powerful interaction tools, and the inability to target her create the perfect setting for frustrating gameplay with little or no countermeasures.
Since the release of the character, Riot have tried to fix the situation, but all attempts have remained futile. Yuumi continued to appear in the Summoner's Rift, and at the highest levels of the League, in combination with a skill partner, the champion was broken: aggressive lineups and characters like Draven and Lucian, sharpened for lane domination, could not cope with their functions.
Riot intends to cope with the current situation at the beginning of 2023. The devs don't want to "kill" the champion, but Yuumi will be significantly reworked by nerfing her channeling abilities, which in turn will make the cat easier to deal with in the early stages of the game and make her combos less able to counter aggressive mastups.
Along with this, Yuumi will remain an accessible character for beginners. Yuumi Riot Games plans to share more details about the rework in the foreseeable future.
