Rumors: LEC matches will be played from Saturday to Monday
According to the portal BLIX.GG, matches of the European series LEC will be played from Saturday to Monday. These changes are related to the recent overhaul of the league format. Previously, championship matches were played on Friday and Saturday, but now the organizers intend to speed up the championship due to an increase in the number of splits.
In mid-November, Riot Games introduced the updated LEC 2023 ecosystem .
For 2023, the LEC series (now the League of Legends EMEA Championship) has prepared many format changes to level up and improve the overall ecosystem. Now, instead of the previous two, three splits will be played, starting with the winter split that accompanies spring and summer. The addition of another split means more matches per season that need to be adapted to international tournaments. Consequently, the organizers will need to host more matches in less time.
This schedule is expected to apply to the first stage of the split, which now consists of a single round with BO1 matches; as well as the playoffs. The winter split is expected to start in January to end in February as the next spring split starts as early as March.
Due to these matchday changes, ERL tournaments played on Mondays, such as Spain's LVP Superliga, have been forced to change their format to play on Tuesdays and Thursdays, returning on January 16th, according to a recent LVP statement.
