Cyberpunk 2077 Now Runs Right in Your Browser, but the Project Will Likely Be Shut Down
An unofficial browser version of Cyberpunk 2077 has appeared online. A developer going by omonkeyzz managed to run the game right in a browser window, with no installation on your PC. Keep in mind, though, that the project was made without CD Projekt RED’s permission and is unofficial, so it will most likely be shut down.
The project runs on WebGPU and WebAssembly, technologies that let a browser tap into your graphics card’s power and run complex code. It’s worth noting that this isn’t like cloud gaming, because the game isn’t streamed from a remote server but processed directly on the player’s device. Game assets load gradually as you play. According to users, the browser version works on some PCs and even on certain Android devices.
For now, though, the project is still very rough. The first launch takes a long time, since the browser has to download game assets and compile shaders. Players also report low frame rates, freezes, missing audio, and broken character faces.
The main problem is that you don’t need to own Cyberpunk 2077 to run the browser version. Similar fan projects usually ask players to upload the files of a game they’ve already bought, but this one, at least for now, works without that. In other words, the project is effectively giving away a game that CD Projekt RED holds the copyright to.

Once again, this is unofficial and effectively pirated content, so we don’t recommend using it. If you want to play Cyberpunk 2077, it’s better to buy the official version of the game and set up a comfortable gaming space to go with it, and Blacklyte chairs can help with that. On top of that, the site is currently running a Halloween sale, so you can get the chair you want at a discount.
CD Projekt RED hasn’t commented on the situation yet, but outlets already expect the studio’s lawyers to step in soon. Something similar happened before, when an unofficial browser version of GTA V was quickly shut down after Take-Two’s lawyers got involved.
As a reminder, Cyberpunk 2077 recently received update 2.5, timed to the premiere of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 anime. It added dual-wielding, new quests, cyberware customization, and cross-platform mod support on consoles.
