CD Projekt RED Revealed Why They Priced DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Quite Low

The DLCs for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt—Hearts of Stone and especially Blood and Wine—are considered some of the best game expansions in history. CD Projekt RED put in a lot of effort and released some truly high-quality products; just as importantly, the prices for these DLCs weren’t that high. In a recent interview, the studio explained its decision.

MP1st spoke with Marcin Momot, Global Community and Social Media Director at CD Projekt RED, asking him how the studio determined the pricing for the aforementioned DLCs. According to Momot, the developers wanted to ensure players got the most value for their money and to live up to their trust. You can check out more of the studio representative’s comments below:

“When we launched The Witcher 3, it was our first open-world game and our first real attempt at putting our storytelling philosophy to the test in such a wide and free setting. It was our most ambitious game at the time, by far, and I think the expansion pass (which I believe was actually $24.99!) was also part of that ambition.

Most importantly though, it was all about the players. For those who supported us by buying the expansion pass for The Witcher 3, it really felt like they were putting their trust in us to expand the game in a meaningful way. I think it was a way to thank them for doing so, and being there to take that journey with us. Above all, we wanted to provide quality at a good value. When we were finishing development on The Witcher 3 and thinking about expansions, we always said that we wanted to create something that represented a real value for money. I think it’s safe to say we hit the mark.”

As you may know, next year The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive one more, final DLC titled Songs of the Past. It promises to be just as expansive as the previous two, sending Geralt to a new region—Vellen—and its story will be tied to Dandelion, since the events take place in his home region. The expansion is also expected to lay the groundwork for The Witcher 4—which, as confirmed by CD Projekt RED, will release in 2028. In light of this interview, it will be interesting to find out how much Songs of the Past will cost.

Last month, the Polish studio also released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered—an enhanced version of its hit title, which became one of the highest-rated games of 2026. Songs of the Past, the latest DLC for the third installment, will be released in 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
