Marvel’s Wolverine Won’t Be Logan’s Origin Story, Insomniac Games Confirmed

Insomniac Games next project, Marvel's Wolverine, launches exactly one month from now, exclusively on PlayStation 5. It's been confirmed the game shares the same universe as Marvel's Spider-Man, Earth-1048, though the game differs from its predecessors by ditching the open world in favor of linear, semi-open locations, standing out in particular for its brutal combat system.

The developers have recently shared a wealth of new details about the game, and in a new interview with GamesRadar+, creative director Marcus Smith confirmed it won't be an origin story and won't show how Logan got his adamantium skeleton. The plot's built around Logan grappling with memory loss instead, and the developers themselves have claimed they won't be digging into his past. You can check out Smith's fuller comments below:

“During our story, Logan already has adamantium infused to his bones. He does not remember how that happened, why it happened, and we are not really covering it because we're not doing an origin story.”

It was also previously revealed that Marvel's Wolverine doesn't feature the X-Men at all—instead, there's Team X, made up of Wolverine, Sabretooth, Mystique, and led by Nathaniel Essex, also known as Mister Sinister. Alongside the developer details, the game's first early reviews from various outlets have also started coming in following the August 13 embargo lift. Critics have generally praised the emotional story and spectacular combat system, though several noted a lack of major innovation from Insomniac.

Meanwhile, IMDb has revealed Marvel's Spider-Man 3 is officially in production, though the studio hasn't made any announcement of its own yet. The listing names Bryan Intihar and Ryan Smith as game directors, with Yuri Lowenthal returning to voice Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
