Star Wars Eclipse Trailer Was Shown at D23—That Might Indicate The Game Is Not Cancelled

Despite internal turmoil at Quantic Dream, including the Spellcasters Chronicles servers shutdown and multiple rounds of layoffs, the studio has confirmed it's still working on Star Wars: Eclipse, an action-adventure in the studio's signature style, featuring multiple playable characters like Detroit: Become Human and a non-linear narrative, first announced back in 2021. There hadn't been much word on the game in a while, but it resurfaced during a recent presentation, complete with its original trailer.

The D23 Expo, focused on upcoming releases from Disney, Marvel Studios, and Star Wars, is currently underway in California. X users spotted that the Star Wars: Eclipse trailer was shown again during the presentation, serving as a reminder the game still exists. However, as it turns out, it’s the exact same trailer Quantic Dream released back in 2021—with no new footage, no gameplay details, and no release date. You can rewatch the debut trailer below:

This seemingly confirms that the game is still in development.

That resurfacing might be a subtle signal that development is still moving forward. Quantic Dream reps told IGN last month that's indeed the case, though no further details on the project have come out.

Insider Gaming has also reported NetEase is considering selling Quantic Dream, but for now, the studio remains in charge of Star Wars: Eclipse despite everything going on. Hopefully none of this leads to the once-iconic French studio shutting down, or another anticipated Star Wars project getting canceled. According to recently shared details on Star Wars: Eclipse's plot, the game’s three main characters are a young Jedi, a girl without any connection to the Force, and her adoptive grandfather.

Star Wars Eclipse is in development for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. The release date for the game is still unknown.
