Quantic Dream Confirmed Star Wars Eclipse Is Still In Development And It Won’t Be Cancelled
The past few weeks have been particularly tense for all Quantic Dream fans—the studio known for Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human; it is believed that the French developers situation leaves much to be desired. It is related to the cancellation of Spellcasters Chronicles and the ongoing crisis surrounding the troubled development of Star Wars Eclipse, announced back in 2021.
Specifically, last week the French media outlet Gamekult reported that Quantic Dream's authority is considering laying off more than 100 employees, prompting many staffers to allegedly go on strike. In the same report, citing sources within the studio, it was stated that Star Wars Eclipse “is dying a slow death due to a lack of resources, vision, and progress.” However, according to IGN, one Quantic Dream employee reported that, despite the studio’s internal problems, development of Star Wars Eclipse is continuing, and the team has the necessary resources to carry out its plans, as you can check out in the spokesperson’s statement below:
“As previously stated, the development of Star Wars Eclipse remains unaffected by the recent closure of Spellcasters Chronicles, a decision driven by the challenging market conditions in that segment. The development of Star Wars Eclipse is continuing as planned, with the full commitment of its team and all the necessary resources to complete its mission.
Our priority is to ensure that employees affected by the restructuring process receive the appropriate support, care, and consideration. Out of respect for this ongoing process and for the employees concerned, we will not provide any further comment at this stage.”
Last month, Insider Gaming also reported that NetEase is considering selling Quantic Dream, but it seems that, for now, Quantic Dream is still in charge of the development of Star Wars: Eclipse, despite all the issues mentioned above. We can only hope that this doesn’t lead to the closure of the once-iconic French studio or the cancellation of another highly anticipated Star Wars game.
According to recently released information about the plot of Star Wars: Eclipse, the three main characters of the game are a young Jedi, a girl who does not possess the Force, and her adoptive grandfather.
