Project Sirius, Multiplayer Witcher Title, Has Lost Number of Employees Due to Layoffs

As is well known, CD Projekt RED is currently working on several projects set in The Witcher universe—one of which is Project Sirius, a multiplayer spin-off. Unfortunately, its development is not going entirely smoothly, as the development team has faced yet another round of redundancies.

According to Kotaku’s original report, nine people have left the team working on Project Sirius, while another nine staff members have been reassigned to other titles. This is not the first time the studio responsible for developing the spin-off has faced cuts: in 2023, production on Project Sirius was restarted, resulting in 29 people leaving the studio in charge of the project. However, no details regarding the multiplayer game, nor its release date, are known at this time.

Another round of layoffs has hit Project Sirius, CD Projekt Red’s multiplayer Witcher game.

According to Kotaku, 9 developers have been laid off, while another 9 are being moved to other projects.

Project Sirius was first announced in 2022 as a Witcher spin-off with single-player and multiplayer elements, the project was rebooted in 2023 with 29 developers fired.

However, Kotaku subsequently updated its initial report, citing CD Projekt representatives. It is clarified that four staff members were laid off from the Boston office and five from Warsaw. The remaining nine staff members may apply for vacancies on other projects. The studio also confirmed that The Molasses Flood—the division responsible for Project Sirius—currently employs 65 staff, adding the following:

“We adjusted the size of the Sirius team to reflect the project’s needs at this stage of development.”

This is certainly not the best news for Project Sirius, and hopefully the game won’t be cancelled. Although all players associate The Witcher directly with a single-player experience, a multiplayer project set in the same universe does have a certain amount of potential.

As well as Project Sirius, the core team at CD Projekt RED is working on The Witcher 4, which will mark the start of a new trilogy. According to the latest information, the game is set to release in late 2027, although an official release date is not yet known. Also, next year, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive a new story DLC – Songs of the Past – which will be fully unveiled this month as part of the Gamescom 2026 presentation. Fool’s Theory is responsible for its development – they are also working on a remake of the first The Witcher game. It's also recently come out that CD Projekt RED is involved in the development of a free-to-play co-op title for PC and mobile devices, though there's been no official announcement about that project yet.
