Gamescom 2026: The Witcher 3—Songs of the Past Reveal Date Confirmed by CD Projekt RED

This May, following months of rumors and fan speculation, CD Projekt RED officially announced a new expansion for the 11-year-old The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt—Songs of the Past. Geralt of Rivia came to a beautiful conclusion in Blood and Wine, but the Polish studio decided to delight fans once more, using the expansion to set up events for the upcoming fourth installment, which will kick off a whole new trilogy.

That said, no official details on Songs of the Past have been revealed yet— except that it will be a large-scale DLC, similar in scope to Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, bringing new storylines, characters, locations, and more. Meanwhile, fans are already floating various theories, mostly based on the expansion art CD Projekt RED has published so far. Well, it is now confirmed we will get the official details as soon as next month.

On its social media channels, the studio announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past will be featured at the upcoming Gamescom 2026 presentation, taking place in late August. The studio confirmed that the expansion will be featured during Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley (The Game Awards, Summer Game Fest), so we can likely expect a debut trailer—or maybe even some first gameplay footage. As is well known, Songs of the Past is not being developed by CD Projekt RED itself, but by Fool's Theory—the same studio working on the remake of the original The Witcher, announced back in 2022. Alongside the fourth installment that will start the new trilogy, the studio is also developing Project Sirius, a multiplayer spin-off set in the universe. It's also recently come out that CD Projekt RED is involved in the development of a free-to-play co-op title for PC and mobile devices, though there's been no official announcement about that project yet.

As for Songs of the Past, the new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is confirmed to be in development for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The release date is currently unknown, but it’s scheduled to launch in 2027.
