The Witcher 4 Is Rumored to Release In the Fourth Quarter of 2027

As is well known, CD Projekt RED is actively working on expanding The Witcher universe, and the upcoming fourth installment will be a key part of this, which is also set to mark the start of a new trilogy. Although The Witcher 4 was announced back in 2024 and still does not have a specific release window, a new report confirms that its development is going according to plan and reveals when it might theoretically be released.

As reported by Stockwatch, with reference to Noble Securities analytics, CD Projekt RED is targeting a The Witcher 4 release in the fourth quarter of 2027—that is, between October and December. Meanwhile, some fans also speculated that the announcement of the new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt— Songs of the Past —made this May meant that the fourth title wouldn’t be released until 2028 or even later. “The announcement of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt expansion has raised investor concerns about the release date of The Witcher 4, which we believe is not at risk. Production is the responsibility of the in-house CDR team, which grew from 499 to 513 developers over the course of the year. The only difficulty in reconciling the two premierships is the issue of potential cannibalization, while the board itself stated that moving the DLC did not change the plans for the remaining games in any way. However, half a year seems to us to be a sufficient interval to take advantage of the most abundant sales period. That's why we maintain the assumption of a premiere in the fourth quarter of 2027.”

Noble Securities also revealed that The Witcher 4's budget has been reduced from 1.4 billion PLN to 1.26 billion PLN (approximately $333.6 million). By comparison, the budget for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was $81 million at the time. Furthermore, the report notes that the budget for Songs of the Past is approximately 152 million PLN ($40 million); the price of the expansion will likely be $35, and the studio aims to generate between $11 million and $15 million in sales in the first year. Additionally, Songs of the Past's performance is expected to impact the development of the next project, developed by Fool’s Theory; as is well known, in 2022 it was announced that they are responsible for developing a remake of the first The Witcher game.

It’s also curious that, according to Noble Securities, CD Projekt RED has several unannounced projects, including some set to be released this year. Most likely, this refers to an unannounced free-to-play game set in The Witcher universe for PC and mobile devices, which appears to be in development by Scopely. Additionally, MP1st recently revealed that CD Projekt RED is collaborating with WayForward on a 2.5D platformer set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, based on the animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

As for already confirmed projects, Songs of the Past, the new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, will release in 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The Witcher 4 currently doesn’t have a release date.
