Minecraft's Chaos Cubed Update Is Now Live With New Mobs, Biomes, and Blocks

Minecraft has officially received the long-awaited Chaos Cubed update, bringing a brand-new mob, underground biomes, blocks, music tracks, and gameplay mechanics to both Java and Bedrock editions.

The update arrives shortly after Mojang confirmed that Minecraft will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, featuring improved visuals and performance enhancements.

Meet the Sulfur Cube

The star of the Chaos Cubed update is the Sulfur Cube, a unique new mob found inside the newly added Sulfur Caves biome.

Unlike any creature currently in Minecraft, the Sulfur Cube can consume blocks and change its properties based on what it eats.

Some examples include:

  • Wood blocks make it bouncy and buoyant
  • Wool blocks make it lighter and slower
  • TNT blocks create explosive results
  • Magma blocks unlock additional effects

Players can even transport Sulfur Cubes using a new Bucket of Sulfur Cube, allowing them to safely move the mob back to their bases.

I think the Sulfur Cube is one of the most creative mob concepts Mojang has introduced in years because it encourages experimentation instead of simple combat interactions.

New Sulfur Caves Biome

Chaos Cubed also adds Sulfur Caves, a new underground biome accessible through Sulfur Springs found in the Overworld.

The caves contain:

  • Sulfur blocks
  • Cinnabar blocks
  • Sulfur Spikes
  • Sulfur Cubes
  • Shallow water pools
  • Glow Lichen

Players can locate these caves by finding Sulfur Springs on the surface and digging beneath them.

New Building Blocks and Environmental Features

The update introduces two complete new block sets:

Sulfur Blocks

Bright yellow building blocks that can be crafted into:

  • Stairs
  • Slabs
  • Walls
  • Bricks

Cinnabar Blocks

Dark red blocks with the same building options, offering new color palettes for builders.

Chaos Cubed also adds:

  • Potent Sulfur
  • Sulfur Spikes
  • Geysers

Potent Sulfur creates bubbling water and releases toxic gas that causes nausea effects to nearby players and mobs. Meanwhile, Geysers can launch players into the air when generated under water.

New Music and Rewards

The update expands Minecraft's soundtrack with music from composer Paula Ruiz, also known as fingerspit.

New tracks include:

  • Ebb
  • Home
  • Memories
  • Nightly
  • Shores

A new music disc called Bounce can also be found in abandoned mineshafts located within Sulfur Caves.

Full patch notes can be found on the Minecraft website.

Second Major Minecraft Update of 2026

Chaos Cubed marks the second major Minecraft content drop of 2026.

Earlier this year, Mojang released the Tiny Takeover update, introducing new baby mobs and the Golden Dandelion item. The studio has already confirmed that another major update, Dappled Forest, is planned for later this year and will add autumn-themed biomes, new trees, and additional building materials.

I can see Sulfur Caves becoming a popular destination for both survival players and builders thanks to the combination of new resources, unique mechanics, and exclusive rewards.
