Pragmata 2 And More New IPs: Capcom Teases Their Plans For the Future

The year 2026, or more precisely its first half, proved to be extremely successful for Capcom. In February, the studio released a new installment of the Resident Evil series—Requiem— which became the fastest-selling entry in the franchise's history. It also received high praise from both players and critics, positioning it as a strong contender for Game of the Year. Moreover, for the first time in many years, Capcom launched a new IP, Pragmata, which also turned out to be a highly successful title.

Speaking of Pragmata, the game's release was a significant milestone for Capcom. According to the company's latest financial report, the game's success could pave the way for the studio to focus even more on developing new IPs in the future, as their budgets are considerably lower compared to major franchises like Resident Evil or Monster Hunter, while still delivering satisfactory financial results. As is known, Pragmata sold 2 million copies in just over two weeks —that was last month. Sales have likely increased even further since then.

Moreover, in the aforementioned financial report, Capcom informed investors about Pragmata's success, attributing it to the developers' fresh ideas, an innovative combat system, a sci-fi setting, and the charismatic duo of main characters. As a result, the chances of Pragmata becoming a full-fledged franchise have increased even further.

This isn't the first-time information about a potential sequel to the game has surfaced. Previously, Capcom USA COO Rob Dyer teased at it, and the game's director, Yonghee Cho, mentioned that he would like to work on Pragmata 2 —but the final decision isn't up to him.

Last week, Capcom made several major announcements. During the State of Play event, it was revealed that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be released on September 25th. Additionally, at the Summer Game Fest, the remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica was announced, now titled Resident Evil Veronica. Moreover, the company is actively working on a story-driven DLC for Resident Evil Requiem.
