Don’t Nod Revealed Whether Aphelion Will Receive a Direct Sequel

This month marked the release of a new game from Don't Nod studio, Aphelion - a studio known for projects such as Life is Strange, Vampyr, and Lost Records: Bloom & Rage. Financial performance data for the game is currently unknown, but Aphelion has generally received very mixed reviews from the gaming press and players.

Although it can boast high-quality visuals and a pleasant soundtrack, Aphelion still has more drawbacks: attention is drawn to the mediocre gameplay and simple and predictable plot, as well as awkward character animations and control issues. One should also take into account the fact that the peak online players in the Steam version of Aphelion over the past day were 24, according to SteamDB.

It looks like, if the developers are even thinking about turning Aphelion into a franchise, the next game definitely will not be a direct sequel - this has been confirmed by the executive producer at Don’t Nod, Dimitri Weideli, during the interview with PlayFront, which you can check out below:

"Aphelion tells the story of Ariane and Thomas, and by the end of the game, that journey reaches its conclusion. The world we've built could support other stories in the future.”

Over the past few years, Don't Nod has released several games with interesting concepts and the potential for further development of their franchises—for example, Harmony: The Fall of Reverie, Jusant, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, and the aforementioned Lost Records: Bloom & Rage. Perhaps not all of them were successful from a financial point of view, but some of them found their audience—this is especially true for Lost Records: Bloom & Rage due to the obvious similarity of its mechanics to Life is Strange while at the same time having its own individuality.
