Upcoming Resident Evil Remake Might Feature Online Co-Op Mode

In recent years, Capcom has released a series of exceptionally high-quality and well-crafted remakes of older Resident Evil titles, and the studio has no intention of stopping there. According to reports, their next remake will be Resident Evil Code: Veronica, originally released in 2000, and it could become one of the studio’s most ambitious reimagining projects.

Furthermore, several sources also indicated that the Code Veronica remake would be followed by a remake of Resident Evil Zero—not the franchise’s best-known title, but a prequel to the very first game. In the game, you play as Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen and explore Umbrella’s abandoned training facility.

Just like all previously released Resident Evil remakes, the new version of Zero will probably expand the main story and have new features. But insider Marcox, who recently revealed the first details of upcoming Resident Evil 10, now shares that in Capcom’s ID, a feature titled “Invite a Friend for Co-op Play” has been discovered for an upcoming Chambers project. Given that Rebecca Chambers is one of the two main characters in Resident Evil Zero, the pieces are starting to fall into place—and the game’s remake will feature a full-fledged co-op mode, something the original lacked.

"In a technical leak from “Capcom ID,” code for an “Invite Friend for Co-op” feature linked to the “Chambers” project has been discovered:

This confirms that the "Zero" remake will, for the first time, allow online co-op play between Billy and Rebecca while retaining the option to play solo and switch between them as in the original version"

It’s curious that recently an insider also stated that the upcoming Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake could feature real-time swap, allowing players to switch between Chris Redfield and Claire Redfield in particular scenes. It looks like Capcom is trying to focus on co-op in their upcoming Resident Evil remake projects.

The studio is also actively working on a DLC to Resident Evil Requiem, which is rumored to feature Leon S. Kennedy as the main character.
