Roblox Launches Two Creator Programs to Chase Its Growing Adult Player Base
Roblox has announced two structured creator programs — the Roblox Incubator and Roblox Jumpstart — aimed at producing a new category of games built for older players. Applications for both opened on March 9, 2026. The company is framing both programs as a direct response to demographic data showing that its adult user base is expanding faster than its under-18 segment and spending more.
A 2025 industry report from analyst Matthew Ball found that Roblox's engagement last year surpassed the combined totals of Steam, PlayStation, and Fortnite — a figure that reframes how seriously the platform's adult-audience push should be taken by the broader games industry.
As of January 31 (2026), 45% of daily active users on Roblox had completed an age verification check. Of that group, 27% were identified as over 18. In the United States, the 18-to-34 cohort is growing at over 50% annually — more than double the rate of the under-18 base — and monetizes at a rate 40% higher than younger users. Roblox is treating that gap as the business case for both programs.
The Roblox Incubator runs for six months and follows a milestone structure. It targets experienced development teams with concepts already developed enough to be refined into commercially viable games. Participants receive access to Roblox subject matter experts for mentorship and support, along with help building an audience before and after launch. The program is selective and designed for teams that already know what they want to build.
Roblox Jumpstart operates on a rolling basis with no fixed end date. It covers two separate groups: creators who are new to the platform and need to learn its tools, and experienced creators looking to explore a different type of game than they have previously built. Applications opened alongside the announcement. Initial in-person pitches are scheduled for the Game Developers Conference, with ongoing pitch opportunities to follow. Jumpstart participants receive the same access to Roblox experts and on- and off-platform user acquisition support as Incubator teams.
The games both programs intend to produce differ from what currently defines Roblox's catalog. Roblox is specifically names RPGs, strategy titles, and shooters as target genres. The company is also describing a distinct visual direction — higher fidelity, different aesthetic conventions, and gameplay mechanics that sit outside the classic Roblox format. The technology roadmap supporting this includes SLIM (Scalable Lightweight Interactive Models), Texture Streaming, and server authority, all aimed at letting developers build visually demanding worlds that function across devices.
"The creativity of Roblox developers has always amazed us. Our vision for Roblox is to be the platform for all ages, and we are calling on ambitious creators with bold ideas to build the next generation of experiences. These new programs provide the mentorship, resources, and discovery support needed to turn those visions into commercial hits."
— Vlad Loktev, Chief Creator Ecosystem Officer at Roblox

I think the shooter genre push is the most telling part of this announcement — we can reasonably expect something more serious than Counter Blox, possibly early attempts at hero shooters or third-person battle royales. Roblox will not become another Unreal Engine, which opened gamedev doors for so many developers starting from scratch, but the platform is growing alongside its audience, and it is only a matter of time before someone produces the first Roblox-based game that earns a notable industry award — unless the community ends up gatekeeping itself with something like its own version of the Roblox Map Awards.
Further details on selection criteria and how to apply for either program is available on Roblox official website. The company has not published specific funding amounts attached to either initiative. Both programs are described as ongoing commitments rather than one-time investments, with Jumpstart in particular structured to accept applications continuously rather than in fixed cohorts.

I see the Incubator as the more consequential of the two programs for the short term — a six-month milestone structure with direct expert access is a meaningfully different offer than most platform creator funds, which tend toward one-time grants with limited follow-through. Whether the games that come out of it actually move adult retention metrics will determine how aggressively Roblox expands both programs.
For those who want a concrete example of how competitive Roblox shooter gameplay already gets, there is a video where the #1 ROBLOX team plays versus a CS2 pro team that circulated widely and demonstrated the gap — and in some moments, the surprising lack of one — between top Roblox players and professional-level competition in a traditional shooter environment.
